Ian Beale’s return to Walford after prison does not bring an easy reunion with his family. In episodes listed for 7 and 8 October 2026, he withdraws from loved ones, clashes with Harvey Monroe and finds unexpected practical support from Ned Hawkins, who urges him to talk about the night of the accident.
How Ian’s return to Walford unfolds
A report published on 2 October 2026 describes Ian as struggling with the effects of his time in prison. As his family prepares to welcome him home, he shuts them out rather than settling straight back into familiar relationships.
Harvey is trying to help Kathy prepare for Ian’s return while also keeping the chippy ready for an inspection. He has agreed to look after Lily Slater’s daughter, Charli, so Lily can attend a career open day. With those responsibilities competing for his attention, Harvey misses the inspection.
Why Ian and Harvey argue
When Ian learns that the inspection was missed, he and Harvey argue at The Vic. The report says Ian becomes overwhelmed by the welcome drinks and leaves the pub. The clash adds to the strain around Ian’s homecoming rather than resolving it.
