In a Reddit post dated October 2, 2026, user Lemzy99 said they sent in a Legion 7i because its CPU reached 102°C while gaming. The poster says the laptop was returned with scratches, damage at a corner edge and plastic protruding from the chassis. They also say the original temperature problem remained after service. The poster identifies the computer as a Legion 7 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 64GB of memory and an RTX 5090. The reviewed official catalogue does not independently confirm that configuration as the customer’s unit.
What the £300 charge means—and what it does not
The Reddit post says Lenovo classified the damage as customer-induced and requested £300 for repair. The poster also says they had asked for photographs from intake but had not received images showing the damage was present when Lenovo received the laptop. That account of the exchange has not been independently confirmed.

Wccftech described the requested amount as about $400, but the original post gives the figure in pounds. The dollar amount is secondary coverage’s rendering of the claim, not a verified invoice amount. Wccftech’s report covers the Reddit post; it is not an independent investigation.
What remains unverified
- When or how the reported scratches and corner damage occurred.
- Whether intake photographs exist, what they show, or whether the customer was sent them.
- Lenovo’s full account, service documentation, and the basis for its alleged customer-induced-damage classification.
- The customer’s warranty terms, country-specific consumer rights, service contract or any accidental-damage plan.
- Whether the dispute was resolved and whether the thermal issue was subsequently addressed.
A report that a laptop came back damaged does not, by itself, establish that the repair centre caused the damage. The available sources do not include Lenovo’s response or an independently authenticated before-and-after record, so the cause and outcome remain unclear.

What to do if a laptop comes back damaged from service
This account does not settle whether a repair centre can legally charge a particular customer for damage. That depends on the applicable terms and jurisdiction, none of which are established here. For a reader dealing with a similar dispute, a useful first step is to create a dated written record and ask for the service provider’s assessment and supporting documents.
- Document the condition promptly. Photograph or video the damage from several angles, including the full device and any packaging. Keep the service paperwork and delivery materials.
- Write to the service provider. Describe the condition before dispatch and after return, identify the disputed damage and charge, and request the intake-condition record, repair notes, diagnosis and an explanation of how the damage was classified.
- Check the terms that apply to your device. Review the warranty, service agreement and any separate accidental-damage coverage for the relevant country and model. Do not assume ordinary warranty coverage includes accidental or cosmetic damage.
- Keep the dispute in writing. Save messages, dates, case numbers, estimates and responses. If the issue is not resolved, use the provider’s formal complaint or escalation route and consult the consumer-protection options applicable where you live.
Why a separate Lenovo protection offer does not answer this case
Lenovo’s Singapore catalogue lists a Legion 9 18IAX10 with an RTX 5090 and advertises three years of Legion Ultimate Support plus three years of Accidental Damage Protection after a free upgrade.
