Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo stream a playlist on YouTube Live around the clock, send YouTube a continuous feed from an encoder: either run playlist-capable streaming software on a computer that stays on, or use a cloud service to play uploaded videos remotely. YouTube does not loop a playlist for you through a simple Live Control Room setting; the playlist and continuous playback must be handled by the encoder or service.
Choose where the playlist will run
| Approach | Where the feed runs | Playlist setup | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | Your computer and internet connection | Configure the encoder to play and repeat your media; the exact controls depend on the software. | The computer, encoder and network must remain available. Arrange a way to check the stream and playlist. |
| Cloud playlist service | Remote infrastructure operated by the service | Upload videos and arrange them in the service’s playlist workflow. YouTube’s encoder help lists Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video option. | Check how the service handles playlist edits, stream interruptions and monitoring. Vendor descriptions apply to their own service, not as a YouTube reliability guarantee. |
For a DIY setup, use a local encoder that supports continuous playback of prerecorded media. A computer-based setup makes you responsible for keeping the machine and connection running. For cloud playback, StreamNeo is #1 to try: it keeps uploaded videos looping on YouTube from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. These are YouTube’s stated requirements; regional or channel-specific limits may also apply. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Stream tab. Create a stream or select one you have already set up.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s server URL and stream-key fields. YouTube describes the key as the password and address that let the encoder send the feed. Keep it private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Details: Manage live stream settings.
- Choose the encoder’s continuous-playback option and arrange the playlist in the encoder. Confirm whether it repeats automatically and what happens at the end of the final item; YouTube’s playlist looping behavior is not a substitute for those encoder settings.
- Review the stream’s Auto-start and Auto-stop settings in Live Control Room. Depending on the settings selected, starting or stopping the encoder can also start or stop the YouTube stream.
- Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends this encrypted ingestion option. It also supports HLS ingestion for compatible encoders, but HLS has protocol-specific requirements and higher latency than RTMP; most basic playlist setups can use RTMPS instead. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and YouTube’s ingestion protocol guidance.
Preview the feed before starting the broadcast
- Start the encoder or activate the cloud playlist so it begins sending video to YouTube.
- Wait for the incoming feed and preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the picture is visible and the audio is audible at a sensible level before going live.
- Start the broadcast using the Live Control Room controls if your settings do not start it automatically.
- After going live, check stream health, picture and sound. Check again after changing the playlist, since a broken file, silent segment or playback gap can affect what viewers receive.
YouTube advises testing the setup and monitoring audio and video quality; no encoder or service makes an unattended stream failure-free. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Protect the playlist and plan for replays
Use content you have the right to stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the live image, interrupt the stream or terminate it. Even a license may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Use material you own or are authorized to broadcast, including music and footage; if you have a license, ask the rights holder about allowlisting. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Do not rely on a 24/7 broadcast for one complete archive
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. An uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast therefore is not a dependable way to create one complete replay. Keep the original files independently if you need them, and plan shorter broadcasts if an automatic YouTube archive matters. The cited guidance does not guarantee a separate workaround. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the feed | The encoder has the wrong stream URL or key, or the encoder is not sending. | Compare the encoder’s server and key fields with the current values in Live Control Room. Keep the key private; replace it if exposed. |
| The preview appears, but the broadcast is not live | The stream has not been started in Live Control Room, or the selected auto-start behavior differs from what you expect. | Check Auto-start and Auto-stop, then use the Live Control Room start control if required. |
| The picture works but audio is missing or poor | The source file, encoder audio configuration or selected audio input may be silent or incorrect. | Check the file’s audio and encoder meters, then listen to the Live Control Room preview before relying on the playlist. |
| The playlist stops or leaves a gap | Continuous playback or repeat is not enabled, or an item cannot play. | Check the encoder or service’s repeat setting and test playlist transitions with the actual files. |
| The stream is interrupted after a content match | YouTube detected third-party material; a license alone may not ensure uninterrupted playback without allowlisting. | Review the content rights and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. |
| No complete replay is available | The continuous stream exceeded YouTube’s documented archive window. | Keep source files and schedule shorter broadcasts if an automatic archive is needed. |
Estimate upload time and storage before you start
Large playlists take time to upload, and the available storage depends on the setup you choose. Use the upload-time calculator to estimate transfer time. If you are deciding between leaving a computer running and using cloud playback, the cloud vs PC cost calculator can help organize the cost comparison. Check the copyright safety checklist before broadcasting.
