It does not remake the adventure or change its identity; instead, it improves the presentation and sands down friction in progression, combat, menus and traversal. GamesRadar+ reviewer Hayes Madsen’s PC review, published October 2, 2026, is strongly positive, with two reported blemishes: slowdowns in some busy scenes and character models that can look uncanny.
What this review covers
GamesRadar+ reviewed the PC version using a publisher-provided code. Its observations about performance and play are a qualitative account of that experience, not a controlled test across platforms. The review does not provide frame-rate or loading-time benchmarks.
What changes in The Witcher 3 Remastered?
The defining achievement is breadth rather than reinvention. The familiar open-world RPG remains intact, but the review finds that the remaster improves details players encounter throughout the adventure.
Visuals and presentation
The reviewer noticed the biggest visual gains in lighting and environments, alongside updated hair physics and character animation. CD Projekt RED describes the upgrade as including improved textures, foliage, lighting, rendering and ray tracing, as well as new combat animations and finishers. The publisher also lists an adaptive camera among the additions. These are the company’s feature descriptions; the review’s own strongest praise is for the atmospheric effect of the lighting and environmental changes.

Not every character benefits equally from the visual update. Madsen found that some models looked uncanny, a reminder that enhanced detail does not make every face or animation more convincing.
Progression, combat and exploration
The most meaningful gameplay change for the reviewer is the redesigned skill tree. Madsen found it easier to understand and more satisfying when shaping a character. CD Projekt RED says the overhaul is intended to offer more flexibility and make progression choices have greater impact; that is the publisher’s description, while the review’s judgment is that the redesign makes character building more approachable.

Combat gets a closer camera, additional Sign effects, finishers and idle animations, along with small adjustments to enemy behavior. The closer perspective makes fights feel more immediate, while the review treats the other changes as refinements rather than a new combat system.
Outside combat, the reviewer highlights clearer menus and codex navigation, easier quest tracking, improved climbing and fewer moments when Roach catches on trees. Witcher senses are also clearer to use. These small changes matter because they address repeated interruptions across a long adventure rather than adding a separate mode or campaign.

How does it play, and what are the drawbacks?
The review’s verdict is that the remaster preserves the recognizable core while making the overall experience smoother. The skill-tree redesign stands out, and the camera, navigation and traversal adjustments help the game feel less awkward without changing its scale or structure.
Madsen reports occasional slowdowns during busy PC scenes and combat encounters. This is a reviewer-reported issue, not evidence of a universal performance problem or a measured result; the sources provide no controlled frame-rate comparison. The review also notes some uncanny-looking character models after the visual upgrade. CD Projekt RED had committed to performance improvements, but that commitment does not establish that a particular fix has shipped.

Is The Witcher 3 Remastered worth revisiting?
For someone who already likes The Witcher 3, the review’s answer is yes: the update improves enough interconnected parts of the experience to make another journey worthwhile, even though it is not a new game. For a newcomer, the same refinements make the existing RPG more comfortable to approach, but the review does not claim that the remaster changes the underlying adventure.
That distinction is the key to the recommendation. This is a substantial polish pass across visuals and everyday systems, not a replacement for the original game. Madsen sums up the result as: “The Witcher 3 Remastered doesn’t make the massive RPG feel like a new game, but it does tweak and enhance a number of facets that help smooth over the experience and bring out its best qualities.”

Release, expansions and upgrade eligibility
CD Projekt RED announced the Remastered release for September 29, 2026. The company says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included and available at no extra cost to owners of the base game. Its announcement lists GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 as places the release is available. The product page lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 as platforms for the Remastered upgrade.
Upgrade rights depend on the supported platform ecosystem and storefront, so do not assume ownership transfers between accounts or platforms. Before purchasing, check the edition you own and the relevant storefront or platform account for its upgrade terms. The publisher says existing saves remain compatible.
