The director says that arrangement lets him focus on the third game while he oversees the porting work from a distance. He also says multiplatform development will not compromise the game’s quality—but those are his assurances, not independent test results for an unreleased game.
What Hamaguchi said about the separate unit
In an AUTOMATON WEST interview published February 16, 2026, Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi said: “We have a dedicated unit within my team that handles porting work, and they operate separately from the team developing the third installment.”
He added that he trusts the porting unit, which he described as carefully tuning the versions, and supervises its work from a distance. That division of responsibility, in his account, allows him to concentrate on the third game. The interview describes how Hamaguchi says the work is organized; it does not independently verify the unit’s structure or measure its effect on development.
Why Switch 2 and Xbox Series S raised concerns
The interview addresses whether shifting to multiplatform development could affect the final game, including whether support for lower-spec systems might mean compromised graphics. Hamaguchi said the move would not lower the third installment’s quality. Because Revelation is unreleased, that remains the director’s assurance rather than a conclusion established by public testing.

Hamaguchi named four considerations when developing across platforms: CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage media. He said Xbox Series S can be challenging to port to because it has less memory than some other platforms, while Switch 2 has ample memory “in that respect.” His explanation is that the team optimizes each platform individually, rather than allowing one system’s constraints to dictate the others’ versions.
How the assets are adapted
Hamaguchi said the team starts by creating assets for high-end PC environments, then reduces and tunes them for individual systems. He gave these examples of differences between versions:

These comparisons describe the scaling approach Hamaguchi discussed; they do not establish how Revelation will look or perform on any particular console. No public comparative benchmark or test of the game on Switch 2 or Series S is established by the cited material.
What is known about the game’s progress
Hamaguchi said the third installment was already playable and progressing close to the schedule milestones set at the project’s start. That is a director update, not an independently verified schedule assessment. Square Enix’s official game page names the title FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION and describes a final battle against Sephiroth.

Rebirth’s platforms do not confirm Revelation’s
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC and PS5, according to the official Final Fantasy Portal announcement and Square Enix’s Rebirth page. That is information about the previous game, not confirmation of Revelation’s platforms.
The cited Revelation page includes a pre-order link, but its available information does not state a release date, platform list, or physical-edition details. It would therefore be premature to treat any particular console version or format as confirmed.
