Che cos’è QSSR su PS5
QSSR è l’acronimo di Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony la presenta come un nuovo livello di prestazioni per l’upscaling con AI su PS5, sviluppato nell’ambito della collaborazione grafica Project Amethyst con AMD. In termini pratici, l’upscaling ricostruisce un’immagine a risoluzione più alta a partire da quella renderizzata dal gioco; Sony afferma che il metodo usa una rete neurale ottimizzata e un’implementazione regolata per puntare a prestazioni rapide sulla console.
La spiegazione tecnica disponibile viene da Sony: la società descrive la propria tecnologia di upscaling come un’analisi delle immagini pixel per pixel per ricostruire più dettaglio e stabilità rispetto agli approcci tradizionali. L’annuncio non specifica la risoluzione di rendering o di uscita, né fornisce misurazioni indipendenti che permettano di quantificare l’effetto di QSSR.
Quali giochi supportano QSSR
Nell’annuncio del 1 ottobre 2026, Sony nomina due titoli iniziali. Il supporto arriva con una patch e QSSR viene aggiunta come opzione grafica: non è descritta come un aggiornamento automatico applicato a tutti i giochi PS5.

QSSR su PS5 e PSSR su PS5 Pro: le differenze
QSSR e PSSR sono tecnologie correlate, ma Sony le associa a tier hardware diversi: QSSR è annunciata per PS5, mentre PSSR è il riferimento di upscaling AI per PS5 Pro. Sony definisce QSSR una variante più rapida per PS5; non afferma che raggiunga la stessa qualità di PSSR su Pro.

Il confronto non permette di stabilire un vincitore misurato: Sony non ha pubblicato un confronto numerico diretto tra QSSR e PSSR. Per PSSR, inoltre, Sony avverte che i risultati della modalità di qualità migliorata variano da un gioco all’altro.
Quanto migliora l’immagine e che cosa non è stato dichiarato
Sony attribuisce a QSSR un aumento del dettaglio e della stabilità dell’immagine. Non ha però indicato un incremento percentuale, una risoluzione specifica, un obiettivo di frame rate o dati di latenza. Di conseguenza, non è possibile ricavare dall’annuncio quanto cambi la resa di un singolo gioco o se l’opzione comporti compromessi diversi da titolo a titolo.

Per ora Sony non specifica requisiti relativi alla revisione hardware, alla versione del firmware, alla modalità video o al display. Non annuncia neppure la necessità di acquistare una nuova console per usare QSSR: la funzione è presentata per PS5, ma i dettagli tecnici di compatibilità non sono stati pubblicati.

QSSR non risulta un’impostazione generale da attivare nelle impostazioni di sistema: l’annuncio la lega a giochi specifici e alle rispettive patch. Per provarla, aggiorna il gioco interessato e controlla le opzioni grafiche al suo interno quando la patch che introduce il supporto è disponibile. Per conoscere la compatibilità effettiva, fai riferimento alle note di aggiornamento pubblicate per quel titolo.
