Updated October 3, 2026. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered and Crimson Desert Enhanced are different kinds of updates, not equivalent new editions. The Witcher update emphasizes broad audiovisual and gameplay modernization; Crimson Desert Enhanced focuses on story and quest changes, added language support, progression changes and earlier post-launch updates. If you already own either game, check your platform’s eligibility for the free update before considering another purchase.

What The Witcher 3 Remastered changes
CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered for September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for eligible existing owners. Its announcement describes changes across visuals and performance, combat, the skill system and animations, alongside cross-platform mod support. On supported platforms, it replaces the Complete Edition and includes both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The announced platforms are PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; the publisher separately announced a native Nintendo Switch 2 version. CD PROJEKT RED’s release announcement and Switch 2 announcement provide platform-specific details.
The publisher says the modernization grew from development work on the new Songs of the Past expansion. That explains the stated development rationale, but it is not an independent assessment of how much each system has improved. The Switch 2 announcement specifically describes improved performance and visual fidelity using that hardware; it should not be read as a measured comparison with other platforms. What Crimson Desert Enhanced changes
Pearl Abyss says Crimson Desert Enhanced became available on August 25, 2026, as a free update for existing owners on supported platforms. It adds cutscenes and story moments through the main quest, voice-over in German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese, and Arabic subtitles and interface text. The update also includes post-launch updates released up to that point. Pearl Abyss’s Enhanced update notice
Version 2.00.00 notes specify that the main story and quests were revised, the skill-learning system changed, and Abyss Link was added. The patch also adds eight Kliff skills, which require story progression. These details make Enhanced a set of changes to the existing game, rather than a separate game owners must buy. Choose Crimson Desert Enhanced’s focus if you want its added story and systems
If you want to revisit Crimson Desert for revised story and quests, added voice and text language options, skill changes or the post-launch updates gathered into Enhanced, those are the update’s stated areas. The eight added Kliff skills have story progression requirements, so they are not simply available to every player from the start.
For a new purchase, choose the game—not the update label
The Witcher 3 is Geralt’s established role-playing adventure; Crimson Desert is Pearl Abyss’s action-adventure about Kliff and the Greymanes. The publishers’ update descriptions do not settle which game is more enjoyable or the better value. Compare the game itself, your preferred platform and the edition contents shown in your local store. Neither “Remastered” nor “Enhanced” alone establishes a winner.

Check ownership and platform before buying
- If you own The Witcher 3: check the relevant platform’s store listing and your entitlement for the free Remastered upgrade. Platform eligibility can differ; do not assume that ownership on one platform grants another platform’s version.
- If you own Crimson Desert: check the supported platform’s update availability for the free Enhanced update before buying another edition.
- If you are buying either game for the first time: confirm your platform, regional edition contents and current listing before paying. The official sources do not establish current regional prices or retailer stock.
Keep the Crimson Desert DLC separate
Crimson Desert Enhanced is the base-game update released August 25, 2026. It is not the separately announced DLC, Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown. Pearl Abyss’s September 30 notice moved that DLC’s release date by two weeks and gave October 29, 2026 (UTC) as the revised date. That date was still in the future on October 3 and could change; the DLC is not part of the August update. Pearl Abyss’s DLC notice
