That is more than the 13,758-player Steam peak reported for ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN, but it is a concurrency comparison—not a measure of copies sold, lifetime players, or console activity. Launch-period coverage also described player complaints about technical and gameplay issues.
How many people played Ace Combat 8 on Steam at launch?
GamingBolt reported on October 2, 2026, that ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE peaked at 48,687 concurrent Steam players. Its comparison figure for ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN was 13,758 concurrent players. On those reported figures, ACE COMBAT 8 had more than triple the earlier game’s peak.

This supports calling it the biggest Steam launch peak in the series reported at that time. Concurrent users count how many people are playing simultaneously; they do not show sales, total players over time, or engagement on PlayStation and Xbox. GamingBolt attributed the figures to SteamDB, but the SteamDB chart text available for review did not independently expose the peak series. GamingBolt’s October 2 report is the source for the comparison.
When and where did it launch?
Bandai Namco announced a worldwide release on October 2, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. SteamDB lists the Steam release timestamp as October 1 at 21:59:57 UTC; that timestamp is compatible with the publisher’s October 2 calendar date across time zones. The game was developed by Bandai Namco Aces Inc. Bandai Namco’s game page and its worldwide launch announcement list the platforms and date.

What issues did players report?
Launch-period coverage described a range of complaints, but those reports do not establish that every player encountered them, identify confirmed root causes, or show whether they remain unresolved. GamingBolt noted performance issues and crashes. PC Gamer described negative Steam reviews mentioning multiplayer connectivity, flight handling that felt heavier to some players, and absent HOTAS support.
Those are attributed player reports, not independent test results or proof of a server-wide outage. The cited coverage does not provide reproducible performance benchmarks or establish current connectivity, patch, or controller-support status.

The ACE COMBAT ZERO bonus on Steam
PC Gamer also reported objections to the Steam presentation of the ACE COMBAT ZERO: THE BELKAN WAR bonus. According to that coverage, the bonus appeared as a DLC executable launched separately from the base game rather than as a standalone Steam app. Reviewers raised concerns about its download footprint and the absence of separate achievements and cloud saves. What kind of game is Ace Combat 8?
Set in the fictional world of Strangereal, the campaign centers on the occupied Federation of Central Usea, the Republic of Sotoa, and the player’s role as “Wings of Theve” alongside Joker Flight. Bandai Namco describes the game as combining arcade-style aerial combat with a story-driven single-player campaign.

The official product page also presents ACE COMBAT ONLINE as a separate progression experience, with cross-play, co-op and PvP activity. Listed activities include Co-Op Assault, Co-Op Warfare, limited-time PvP events, and special missions. Bandai Namco says the Air Base lobby can host up to 100 players; that is a stated lobby capacity, not the number of players in a mission or a concurrent-user count.
Which editions are available?
Bandai Namco lists Standard, Deluxe, and Joker Flight Pack editions. Contents and availability can vary by region and retailer, so check the local listing before buying.

Bandai Namco says the Premium Ace Pass offers aircraft, cosmetic items, and aircraft upgrade items as progression rewards. Its FAQ says the pass has no paid loot boxes or randomized paid rewards and that the publisher currently has no plans for consumables; pass details may change. Bandai Namco lists 125 GB of free storage and 32 GB of RAM among the PC requirements. The publisher says 1080p at 60 fps with upscaling is possible at Medium settings; this is a publisher specification, not an independently tested performance result.
