What is Mister Scary – Where Are You? about?
Mister Scary is a purple monster who has lost his family and sets off through a strange land to find them. The developer says the character was directly inspired by a toddler’s imaginary friend, giving the spooky setting a family-searching premise rather than a purely horror-focused one. Xbox’s official listing and Nintendo’s US listing describe six stages with sub-areas and six bosses.
How does the platforming work?
The official descriptions outline a small set of playful combat and survival mechanics:
- Stomp: Jump on enemies to attack them.
- Snack attacks: Spicy snacks let Mister Scary torch foes, while icy snacks freeze them.
- Scary Tokens: Collect 15 to earn an extra life.
- Nap for protection: Ducking makes Mister Scary take a nap and become immune to damage, according to the Xbox product description.

The NES ROM and cartridge are distinct from the modern Xbox and Switch ports. A physical NES edition should not be mistaken for a boxed version of either modern console release.
What should you know about Switch play?
Nintendo describes its release as a digital edition, estimates the download at 111 MB, and lists TV, tabletop and handheld play modes. Its US page says single-system play supports one to two players. Xbox’s listing, by contrast, describes its edition as single-player, so player count is platform-specific rather than uniform across the game. Check the local Nintendo listing for current availability and details.
How much does it cost?
Prices depend on region and can change. The US Xbox Store displayed $4.79, reduced from $5.99, when checked on October 3, 2026, with the sale shown as ending in 15 days. What age ratings apply?
Ratings differ between regional storefronts. Nintendo US lists ESRB Fantasy Violence and Mild Blood; Xbox US lists Everyone 10+ with fantasy violence and mild blood. In the UK, Nintendo lists PEGI 7 with fear and mild violence, while Xbox lists PEGI 7 with mild violence and fear. Use the rating shown by the storefront in your region rather than treating one territory’s label as universal.
