SpecialEffect’s One Special Day campaign included both Clash of Clans and Subway Surfers, but it was not an automatic donation for simply playing. The 2026 campaign said UK spending on selected mobile games on Friday, 2 October 2026, would help the charity. That date has passed.
How the One Special Day campaign worked
SpecialEffect’s official One Special Day 2026 announcement listed Clash of Clans, Subway Surfers and Subway Surfers City among participating games. It described the mechanism as UK spending “on selected mobile games” on Friday, 2 October 2026, and invited supporters to spend “on and in” games such as Subway Surfers. The page also names Supercell and SYBO among its mobile partners.

That wording points to spending during a specific campaign day—not a donation triggered merely by opening a game, playing for free, or playing at any time. The announcement does not give a donation percentage, per-game rate, minimum purchase, or detailed purchase exclusions, so those terms cannot be inferred from the game list.
What players can take from the headline
- Both games were included: Clash of Clans and Subway Surfers appeared on the official 2026 list.
- The campaign was dated: the stated day was Friday, 2 October 2026, which has passed.
- Spending—not free play—was the stated route: the campaign described UK spending on selected games that day as supporting SpecialEffect.

What SpecialEffect does
SpecialEffect supports people in the UK whose physical disabilities prevent them from playing particular video games. Its FAQ explains that the charity can assess a person’s needs and, where it identifies a workable setup, loan equipment for a period. The charity says its advice, support visits and equipment loans are free, and that it does not sell equipment or fund purchases. A donation supports the charity’s work; it should not be assumed to be earmarked for a particular person, device or game.

Other ways to support SpecialEffect
The expired One Special Day date is not the only way to help. SpecialEffect invites supporters to organize a gaming stream, marathon or event and collect donations through its stream team resources, including Tiltify and JustGiving campaigns. Its fundraising guidance also describes options such as esports team events, board-game marathons and GameBlast. These are separate fundraising activities: routine play does not become a donation unless a specific campaign or fundraising arrangement says so.
For a future One Special Day, check SpecialEffect’s current campaign page for the date, participating games, eligible spending and any terms. The 2026 announcement establishes the titles and date above, but does not supply contribution rates or detailed transaction conditions.
