Players in the community-led Deadlock Night Shift tournament series reportedly agreed to push the Broker’s custom-lobby spawn timer to 60 minutes, keeping the temporary mechanic out of matches that ended sooner. The concern was that unpredictable Corrupted-item effects could make decisive fights hinge too much on random outcomes. This was a reported workaround by Night Shift participants—not a Valve ban or a rule established across competitive Deadlock.
What Night Shift participants reportedly agreed to
A Power Up Gaming report published October 2, 2026 says Night Shift players set the Broker’s custom-lobby spawn timer to its maximum, 60 minutes. The report says no tournament match had lasted that long, so the setting was intended to keep the NPC from appearing during play.

The original Reddit post linked in the report has been deleted, so the remaining discussion does not establish the full scope or formal status of the decision.
Why the Broker raised a competitive-fairness concern
Power Up Gaming describes the Broker as a limited-time merchant that let players trade Tier 3 and Tier 4 items for powerful Corrupted variants with randomized drawbacks, including penalties to movement speed, health, or power. Valve’s September 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps update mentions the Broker and says Street Brawl grants a corrupted item after the item draft in Round 5; it does not independently confirm the report’s full account of the Broker’s effects or the tournament agreement.

The objection, as reported and discussed by commenters, was that players could face different advantages and penalties because of variable item rolls. In a high-stakes match, that kind of variance may make results harder to attribute to planning and execution. The available accounts describe a concern and a community debate, not a measured effect on match outcomes.
The disagreement reflects competing priorities: predictable conditions for competition versus experimentation with a temporary event mechanic, and consistent rules versus the discretion of a grassroots tournament community. The discussion includes both criticism of the randomness and defenses of a temporary, locally agreed rule; it should not be treated as representative of all Deadlock players.

Was the Broker banned from Deadlock or every tournament?
No. The reported agreement applies to Night Shift participants and their custom lobbies. The available sources do not establish a game-wide ban, a rule covering every tournament, or a formal Valve decision to prohibit the Broker in competitive play.
The feature also appears to have been short-lived. A community-maintained Deadlock update record lists the Broker as “no longer available for business” in the October 2 update, marking it as an undocumented change. That is a community record, not an official Valve patch-note statement. The reported workaround is therefore best understood as a response to a temporary feature, rather than a current general ban.
