Blizzard says it has taken action against WoW: Forever beta accounts involved in real-money trading (RMT), including accounts found botting to amass gold and accounts found to have bought or knowingly received illicit gold. The company says enforcement will continue during the beta and after launch, and it plans to add an in-game warning when players trade with strangers.
What Blizzard announced about RMT in WoW: Forever
In an October 1, 2026 forum post, Blizzard community lead Randy “Kaivax” Jordan said the company had been acting against beta accounts found to have participated in RMT. He wrote: “Our stance on RMT in World of Warcraft is crystal clear: any account belonging to any player that is found to have participated in generating, selling, buying, or receiving illicit gold is subject to the gold being removed, account suspensions, or permanent account closures.”
Jordan added: “We will continue to take action against RMT in both the Beta and the live game after the launch of WoW: Forever.” Blizzard’s announcement therefore covers both the current beta and the live game after launch; it does not set an end date for enforcement.
Which conduct and consequences does the policy cover?
Blizzard’s stated scope includes generating, selling, buying, or receiving illicit gold. The post says accounts found to have participated may face gold removal, suspension, or permanent closure. It does not say that every gold trade, gift, or recipient automatically triggers a penalty: its wording concerns accounts Blizzard finds to have participated in illicit activity.

An earlier September 28 clarification addressed buyers and recipients more directly. Jordan said Blizzard would increasingly act against buyers, remove illicit gold from recipients, and could take further action, including closing accounts. He warned players about gifts from strangers and one-sided transactions, and said recipients who “knew or should have known” that the gold was illegitimate may be actioned.
Why Blizzard is adding a warning for trades with strangers
Blizzard said it would soon add an in-game notice whenever a player trades with a stranger. The warning is intended to make the risk of accepting suspicious gold explicit:

“Be wary of accepting gold from unknown or suspicious sources. If the provider is engaged in Real Money Transactions, you could put your account at risk of closure. Please see the following support article for more information.”
The warning does not say that a stranger’s trade is itself proof of wrongdoing. Rather, it tells players that accepting gold from a suspicious source can put their account at risk if the provider is involved in RMT. Blizzard has not specified in the announcement how the game will determine which trades trigger the warning or when it will appear beyond saying it is coming soon.

What Blizzard has—and has not—said about beta enforcement
The October 1 post says Blizzard has been taking action against accounts found botting to amass beta gold and accounts found to have purchased or knowingly received illicit gold. It gives no total for affected accounts, suspensions, closures, or gold removals, and it names no individual player or account.
GamesRadar reported the announcement amid public scrutiny of suspected RMT in the beta and mentioned an alleged case involving roughly $200 worth of gold being removed. That is GamesRadar’s account of an allegation, not an enforcement figure published by Blizzard or a named case confirmed in Blizzard’s post. The official statement does not provide enough detail to verify individual public claims about bans or gold removal.
