Revelations adds content to DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Ripatorium arena challenge mode, including extra maps, demons and fully upgraded weapons for expansion owners who finish the story. But the “new endless solo challenge” framing needs a distinction: the Ripatorium’s Endless setting was already part of the base game in 2025. What is new is the expansion-linked content available in Ripatorium 3.0.
What Revelations adds to the Ripatorium
Bethesda says the free Ripatorium 3.0 update adds deeper customization, improved passcode generation and personal presets to the arena mode. Owners of Revelations who complete the expansion’s story also unlock three additional maps, demons and fully upgraded new weapons for Ripatorium play. The arena updates are therefore split between features available to base-game players and extra content tied to the expansion. Bethesda’s announcement does not describe a new Endless mode exclusive to Revelations.

Endless mode was already in the base game
Bethesda introduced the Ripatorium in its August 7, 2025 Update 2 release notes as an arena mode where players could build combat encounters in three arenas. Its Encounter Manager let players choose demon types and quantities, set a time limit or turn on Endless mode, and adjust an enemy respawn counter. That makes Endless mode a pre-existing option, not a feature invented for the 2026 expansion. Read the Update 2 notes.
A later official reference confirms the timeline: Bethesda’s September 4, 2025 hotfix notes mention a crash affecting Ripatorium Endless mode on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 during sessions longer than eight continuous hours. The note is about a technical issue, not a recommended session length. Read the hotfix notes.

What the expansion adds beyond arena play
Revelations is a campaign expansion, not only an arena-content drop. Bethesda announced new levels, deeper puzzles, new demons and mysteries, along with the Chain Spear, a weapon that adds combat and movement options. It launched on July 7, 2026, according to Bethesda’s announcement.

In Xbox Wire’s July 1, 2026 preview, the Chain Spear is described as an alternative to the shield. Its chain can pull the Slayer toward enemies or through the environment, and players can orbit airborne enemies while firing. Game Director and id Software Studio Co-Director Hugo Martin said: “We’re going to make the tanky Dark Ages Slayer fly.” The same preview quotes him describing the expansion as “the culmination of 35 years of DOOM.” Read the Xbox Wire preview.

Campaign and endgame structure
Xbox Wire estimated a 10–12-hour completion time and characterized the expansion as roughly 60% story campaign and 40% endgame. These are the preview’s estimates and breakdown, not independently verified playtime measurements. It describes the later endgame as replaying campaign levels with additional challenges and puzzles, followed by a major boss and master arenas. The preview also says existing difficulty sliders remain available.
Is Revelations worthwhile if you mainly want the Ripatorium?
If you want custom encounters or an endless arena run, the base-game Ripatorium already supports that, and the free Ripatorium 3.0 update brings additional customization features. The expansion’s arena case is its post-story additions: three maps, demons and fully upgraded weapons. Its broader value depends on whether you also want the new campaign, Chain Spear and endgame activities.

Price and platform details
In its June 7, 2026 announcement, Bethesda listed a U.S. launch price of $19.99 for the standalone downloadable add-on. It said the Premium Edition upgrade was $34.99 at the time of that announcement, and that access to Revelations would be included at no additional launch cost with the Premium Edition or Collectors Bundle. Those are dated U.S. prices; current retailer pricing and regional offers may differ. Bethesda’s announcement lists the game on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net and PlayStation 5. It also specifies that Steam players need the base game to use the add-on.
