To keep a creek and forest ambience video live on YouTube around the clock, send it through an encoder such as OBS from a verified, unrestricted channel—or use a cloud service that plays an uploaded video. For a local setup, create a stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with the stream’s server URL and key, test the feed and upload capacity, and plan breaks if you want reliable archives. Use footage and sound you own or are licensed to livestream, and don’t assume that looping a video qualifies for monetization.
Choose a source and confirm your channel is eligible
Decide whether your ambience stream will use a live camera and microphone, an original prerecorded recording, or a combination. YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable for feeds that combine prepared video, overlays, cameras, or audio hardware. An encoder gives you control over the source you send, but a local encoder must remain available for the broadcast to continue.
Before setting up, verify your channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, as required by YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance. If the option to go live is unavailable, check channel verification and restrictions before troubleshooting OBS.
Use recordings you made yourself or content you have permission to livestream. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights on the creator. That includes music, even if it is quiet under the sound of running water, and rights for both the live broadcast and any archived replay.

Set up a YouTube stream with OBS
OBS is one encoder option; its official Knowledge Base covers setup, streaming, sources, filters, and audio. YouTube also supports other broadcast methods, but an encoder is useful when you need to send a prepared video or combine sources.
- Prepare the video and audio. Choose the creek-and-forest footage and sound you intend to broadcast. In OBS, add the relevant source or sources and check that the picture and sound behave as intended. The exact source and looping configuration depends on your media and OBS setup; test it rather than assuming it will repeat correctly.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a live stream or schedule one. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting a stream this way.
- Copy the connection details into OBS. In YouTube Studio’s stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding stream settings in your encoder. A stream key is a credential: YouTube says it is like the stream’s password and address. Do not show it on screen or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in the stream settings. See Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview before relying on the broadcast. Confirm the intended video is visible and that the creek, birds, or other ambience audio is audible and not distorted.
- Start the YouTube broadcast and monitor it. Once the preview is correct, start the broadcast in Live Control Room if required by the stream setup. Check the public watch page from another device and continue monitoring audio and video during the stream.
Set quality around your real upload capacity
There is no single resolution or bitrate that is right for every ambience stream. Choose output settings appropriate to the video and your connection, then confirm that your actual upload capacity can sustain the encoder’s total streaming bitrate. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; use upload, not download, capacity for this check. Its live-streaming tips also recommend testing ahead of time and monitoring the broadcast.

- Run a test stream before scheduling a long broadcast. Check for dropped frames, interrupted audio, and mismatches between the encoder preview and the YouTube preview.
- Use a stable connection and, where practical, a wired network connection. A cable or router can help address local network instability, but YouTube does not endorse a particular model or prescribe a universal network setup.
- Do not select a bitrate based on download speed or on a generic target alone. If your upload connection cannot sustain the chosen total bitrate with headroom, reduce the stream’s demands or improve the connection.
- Keep checking the watch page and the feed during the broadcast. A picture that appears correct in the encoder is not enough if the YouTube stream is silent, unavailable, or visibly degraded.
YouTube notes that expensive equipment is not required. A dedicated computer or mini PC may be convenient for a local always-on encoder, but the cited guidance does not specify a minimum processor, memory, or graphics requirement.
Plan stream breaks and archives
YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If you want dependable replays from a continuous ambience channel, plan breaks and separate broadcasts rather than assuming a single 24-hour stream will produce the archive you want. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a guaranteed archive outcome for every stream longer than 12 hours, so check the current Live Control Room behavior before relying on one.

For each planned restart, make sure the next stream is configured and the encoder can reconnect using the correct stream settings. Check the new preview and watch page after starting it; do not assume the previous broadcast’s archive or settings will carry over exactly as you expect.
Understand the monetization risk of looped ambience
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams. Its policy identifies repetitive or mass-produced videos as “inauthentic content” that is ineligible for monetization; YouTube announced the terminology change on July 15, 2025. A short clip repeated for hours is not assured approval. Original recordings, purposeful variation, careful production, and a distinct channel presentation may make the work more meaningful, but none guarantees monetization. YouTube reviews channels under its policies; see its channel monetization policies.

The Live Control Room preview is blank or wrong
Confirm the encoder is sending to the intended YouTube server URL and stream key, and verify the selected source in OBS. Check that the encoder has actually started sending before diagnosing the public watch page.
The stream is unstable or drops frames
Compare the encoder’s total bitrate with sustained upload capacity, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Test again at a lower output demand if the connection cannot maintain it; download speed is not the relevant measure.
The stream plays but has no sound or distorted ambience
Check the active audio source and levels in the encoder, then listen to the Live Control Room preview and the public watch page. A source audible on the local computer may not be included in the stream mix.
The stream ended or the archive is missing
Check the broadcast state and archive in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; for a longer broadcast, archive behavior is not guaranteed by that guidance. Plan stream breaks if a replay matters and verify current Studio behavior.

A copyright claim or monetization issue appears
Review the rights for every visual and audio element, including licenses for livestreaming and archived playback. For monetization, assess the channel against YouTube’s inauthentic-content policy; repetition alone does not ensure eligibility.
