To stream multiple prerecorded videos continuously to YouTube Live, send them through an encoder or compatible automation service connected to a YouTube Live stream. The encoder or service—not YouTube’s ordinary playlist loop—must handle the video sequence, looping, and what happens when a file ends.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says users must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Live streaming enabled on the channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Video files and a playback or automation system that can send them as one continuous feed. Confirm that the system supports your intended formats, ordering, looping, transitions, and recovery when a file finishes; these capabilities vary by product.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the outgoing stream. YouTube recommends 20% more upload bandwidth than the total stream bitrate; its streaming tips explain the headroom recommendation.
Choose how to send the videos

2. Software encoder on a computer
YouTube supports software encoders, including OBS. This route gives you a local setup, but confirm that the encoder and your chosen playback method can sequence and loop files continuously. Do not assume that every encoder automatically builds a playlist or restarts after a file ends. Your computer, playback source, and internet connection must remain available while it sends the feed.
3. Dedicated hardware encoder
YouTube also supports standalone hardware encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events. A hardware encoder is not automatically a prerecorded-video playlist player: verify that the specific device accepts your media source and supports the scheduling or sequencing you need. You may still need a separate computer or player.

4. YouTube watch-page playlist loop
YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for a viewer on the watch page. It does not transmit those videos as your channel’s live broadcast. Keep the distinction clear: a live stream is an encoder or service sending a feed into YouTube Live; a looped playlist is viewer-side playback. See YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists.
Set up a continuous YouTube Live feed
- Enable live streaming early. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and follow the channel’s live-stream activation steps. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
- Prepare the sequence in your encoder or service. Add the prerecorded files in the intended order and configure the actual playback system to loop or continue as required. Check the provider’s current documentation for supported file formats, transitions, end-of-file behavior, schedules, and recovery. YouTube’s general encoder guidance does not give universal playlist instructions for every encoder or service.
- Create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live to reach the Live Control Room, then create or schedule an encoder stream. Scheduling can create a watch page that you can share before the broadcast.
- Connect the source. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room and enter them in your encoder or service’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Keep it private.
- Start sending and preview. Start the encoder or cloud service, then wait for the incoming preview in the Live Control Room. For a scheduled event, check that preview before starting the event in Studio.
- Test the whole run. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Check the video sequence, audio, watch page, and mobile playback. Watch for gaps or unexpected stops at file boundaries.
- Monitor and end deliberately. Keep an eye on the incoming feed and the service or computer that is producing it. When finished, end the broadcast through the encoder or service and Live Control Room as appropriate, then check the archive.
Bandwidth, archives, and long runs
Use the total outgoing stream bitrate to judge whether your connection has enough upload capacity. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth 20% above that total; the recommendation is headroom, not a bitrate setting for the videos themselves. The exact resolution, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe settings depend on the encoder and stream configuration, so use the current instructions for the encoder you choose rather than applying a universal preset.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not assume a very long continuous broadcast will have the same archive or rewind behavior as a shorter one. See YouTube’s encoder setup and archive guidance.

Only stream material you have the rights to use, including music, visuals, and any third-party clips. Before making a prerecorded stream public, review YouTube’s current policies and confirm that your planned content and channel use comply. A continuous feed does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast material. Common problems and fixes
- The Live Control Room does not show an incoming preview: check that live streaming is enabled, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the encoder has actually started sending. If the channel is newly enabled, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The stream stops when one video ends: the playback source may not be configured to advance or loop. Configure sequencing in the encoder or service, then run a test across a file boundary before scheduling.
- Playback stutters or drops: compare your available upload capacity with the total outgoing bitrate and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Also check the playback machine or service for interruptions.
- The wrong feed appears: verify that the encoder is using the intended stream URL and key. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
- The archive or rewind is missing after a very long run: check the duration and YouTube’s current archive and DVR guidance. Streams under 12 hours are the stated automatic-archive case; longer runs may not have the same DVR behavior.
