The Sundered Anvil is a newly announced, single-player role-playing game from Basilisk Games, the studio behind the Eschalon trilogy. The developer currently plans to release it for Windows and Linux in 2027. Its announced design combines turn-based party play, classic RPG inspirations and an adventure that begins with a stolen-anvil recovery contract.
What is The Sundered Anvil?
The Sundered Anvil is Basilisk Games’ next role-playing game after the Eschalon trilogy. The studio describes it as a handmade, old-school, turn-based RPG focused on a party of adventurers, with Wizardry and Might & Magic among its inspirations. The announcement is a preview of a game in development, not a review of a finished release.
According to the developer, players begin as a group of inexperienced adventurers who accept a contract to recover an anvil stolen from a remote village. The job leads to something larger in the high-fantasy world of Olytheus.
How is it expected to play?
Turn-based party adventure
Basilisk says the game is turn-based and party-focused. RPGamer’s announcement coverage additionally reports first-person exploration. That describes the currently announced approach; the sources do not establish how combat, exploration or balance will feel in practice.

Create a party or choose prepared characters
The developer says players can create characters from eight races and eight classes, with 25 skills available, or choose from eight pre-built characters. These announced options suggest room to shape a party, but the announcement does not detail how skills develop or how the races and classes differ.
Choose the challenge before setting out
Basilisk says players select a base difficulty before beginning and that the game will not scale the challenge after that choice. This is a stated design goal during development; the final implementation has not been established.
