She made the remark in a Bloomberg Screentime exchange about whether leaving felt bittersweet, according to GamesRadar.
Why Kennedy said she felt relief
Asked whether leaving Lucasfilm felt “bittersweet,” Kennedy reportedly answered no, then said: “I suppose there’s a bit of relief. These jobs are not easy and stepping into something like that that George [Lucas] had created was an incredible challenge.” GamesRadar attributes the remarks to Kennedy at Bloomberg’s annual Screentime event. The report does not establish the event’s exact date or provide a primary transcript or full recording.
Her answer describes the difficulty of the presidency and the scale of succeeding Lucas; it is not evidence that she regretted the job or was relieved to leave Star Wars itself.
The creative tension she described
Kennedy also explained the challenge as balancing the audience’s attachment to the franchise with the effort to make new work: “You’ve got people where this means a lot to them. But at the same time, the challenge is to try to create something new, something original. So finding that balance is really the toughest thing.”

The transition announcement named Dave Filoni president and chief creative officer, and Lynwen Brennan co-president. Both would report to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman. Disney also said Kennedy would produce The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter. Her departure from the presidency therefore was not an announcement that she was retiring from film and television work.
Disney CEO Bob Iger characterized Kennedy’s tenure in the announcement as “leadership,” “vision,” and “stewardship”; that is the company’s assessment, distinct from Kennedy’s own comments about the burden of the job.
