Is Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition worth it? If you enjoyed the original PS5 game and want its new story expansion and survival mode, it is a substantial all-in package. For existing owners, the digital upgrade may be the more direct route—but its value depends on your local price and whether you want the included Digital Deluxe items. The caveat: the independent review evidence available here covers the original game, not hands-on play of the new additions.
What’s in Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition?
The Complete Edition bundles the original Ghost of Yōtei campaign with its additional content. PlayStation’s listing includes the story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara, the combat survival mode Most Wanted, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, Digital Deluxe content, and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Check the listing for your region before buying, since editions and availability can vary. PlayStation Store’s US listing identifies the Complete Edition and a separate upgrade add-on.
Ghost of Yōtei is a standalone PS5 game from Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment, not a direct continuation of Jin Sakai’s story. Set in 17th-century rural Japan, about 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, it follows Atsu in Ezo. Sony describes it as a story of healing and redemption beyond vengeance; that is the studio’s framing, not an independent assessment. The PS5 version uses DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, while Sony lists PSSR and advanced ray tracing among the PS5 Pro features. Sony’s launch announcement gives more detail on the game and its platform features.
How does the original game hold up?
The case for “more of a great thing” rests on the original game’s strengths. Tom’s Guide praised its visual polish, cinematic presentation, exploration of Ezo, and combat. Its counterpoint was that the core design feels familiar rather than especially original. That makes this package most appealing to players who want another trip through the game’s world and combat, not necessarily to anyone hoping the edition transforms the underlying experience. Tom’s Guide’s review concerns the original game.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction matters: the independent review evidence cited here does not assess Echoes of Sekigahara or Most Wanted hands-on. PlayStation and Meristation confirm the additions and the broad contents of the Complete Edition, but the available evidence does not establish whether the expansion or mode changes the original game’s overall character. Meristation’s October 2, 2026 coverage describes the edition and patch additions.
Complete Edition or digital upgrade?
The right choice depends first on whether you already own the base game, and then on which extras you want. Sony’s Southeast Asia announcement describes the upgrade as a digital route for existing owners to get Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted; qualifying owners who do not already have them also unlock prior Deluxe content and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. The upgrade is not the same thing as free patch 2.0. PlayStation’s regional announcement explains the upgrade and regional launch details.

What does patch 2.0 add for existing owners?
Patch 2.0 brings several features to existing owners without the paid Complete Edition upgrade. PlayStation says it is available October 1, 2026 globally, and October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Downloading requires internet access and a PlayStation account. PlayStation’s announcement lists the patch features and regional timing.

PlayStation announced both disc and digital Complete Edition availability in Southeast Asia, with the new expansion and mode scheduled to arrive there by patch on October 2, 2026. That confirms physical availability in at least that market, not worldwide stock. Sony’s US page also identifies a physical Standard Edition; it is not the Complete Edition, so check the SKU and region carefully if you want a disc copy. See the Southeast Asia announcement. Who should buy it?
- Buy the Complete Edition if you are new to the game and want the campaign plus the listed expansion, survival mode, Legends, and Deluxe items in one package.
- Consider the upgrade if you already own the base game and specifically want the new story and combat content. Compare its current local price with the extras it includes, especially if you already own some Deluxe content.
- Wait or skip if you want a substantially redesigned game. The original was praised for presentation, exploration, and combat, but at least one review found its core design familiar; available evidence does not show that the new content changes that overall quality.
