Soup Weather has a clear strength and a serious drawback: its changing visuals give shape to Bean’s declining mental health, but one Switchaboo reviewer found that unclear, demanding minigames repeatedly disrupted the conversations and emotional scenes. Renee O’Flynn rated it 5/10, describing a game whose message resonated more than its play did.
What is Soup Weather on Nintendo Switch?
Soup Weather is a digital narrative exploration game starring Bean, an unemployed woman who spends a week talking with neighbors as her mental health declines. The publisher’s description on Nintendo’s US store listing says players explore town, play minigames, and get to know its characters.
Nintendo lists beambag as developer, GiantMargarita as publisher, and October 1, 2026, as the release date. The listing gives an estimated file size of 500 MB, supports single-system play and TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, and marks Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility as “Supported.” These are details from the US listing; prices and regional availability may differ.
What does the review praise?
Visual storytelling that reflects Bean’s state of mind
In her October 1, 2026 review for Switchaboo, Renee O’Flynn praises the way Bean’s surroundings grow duller and foggier as her mental state worsens. In O’Flynn’s view, those changes make the experience of a mental health episode visible rather than leaving it only to dialogue.

A personal connection to the portrayal
O’Flynn also says the portrayal of intrusive thoughts felt accurate to her own experience of OCD. That is her personal response to the writing, not clinical validation or evidence that the game represents everyone’s experience.
Why does the gameplay frustrate the reviewer?
Minigames interrupt the story
O’Flynn’s central criticism is that challenging minigames come between emotionally important dialogue and healing scenes. She reports repeating a Flappy Bird-like cloud section many times, making it difficult to follow the conversation while concentrating on the challenge.

Unclear goals and awkward movement
She also describes several minigames as unclear about their objectives, with controls that felt awkward to her. In the goose-feeding section, she says she could not work out what she controlled or what the meter meant, and stopped playing that section. These are observations from one review, not independently verified defects.
Outside the minigames, O’Flynn found stair traversal cumbersome and walks between neighbors long. Those details matter for a game whose story depends on talking with people around town: friction in getting from one conversation to another can make its quieter moments harder to settle into.

Is Soup Weather worth playing on Switch?
That depends on what you want from it. If visual storytelling and a personal exploration of grief and mental health are your priorities, O’Flynn’s strongest praise points to a potentially affecting experience. If you need clear objectives, responsive-feeling controls, or an uninterrupted narrative, her account raises substantial reservations.
O’Flynn’s overall verdict is 5/10. She says the game may communicate an important lesson but did not engage her as a game, likening it more to an art installation than an enjoyable play experience. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a consensus. Her review’s headline captures the distinction: “Could teach people an important lesson.”
