His argument comes amid estimates of modest Steam sales—but those figures are not official Microsoft totals, and the current Xbox platform listing does not include PS5.
Why an analyst says E-Day should have come to PS5
Tech4Gamers reported on October 1, 2026, that Elliott believed Xbox should not have skipped PS5 for Gears of War: E-Day. The report attributes two Steam figures to the Alinea Analytics analyst: an estimate of 120,000 copies sold for nearly $7 million, and a projection that the game might sell fewer than one million Steam copies during 2026. These are analyst estimates reported by Tech4Gamers, not official Microsoft sales disclosures or final year-end results. Tech4Gamers’ report does not establish total sales across Xbox, PC, and subscriptions.
The commercial case for a PS5 release is straightforward: another platform could put the game in front of more potential players. But the Steam estimates alone cannot show how well the full release is performing, because they do not include Xbox sales or Game Pass access. Nor do the available figures establish how much revenue a PS5 version would add.
Which platforms and release dates are confirmed?
Microsoft’s official E-Day page lists Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store and Steam. It also lists inclusion at launch with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The listed release date is October 6, 2026; Premium Edition players can access the game up to five days early, beginning October 1. Xbox Wire reported the start of early access on October 1.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
PS5 is not on the current official platform list. Elliott’s reported recommendation is an opinion about the release strategy, not an announcement from Microsoft. A later PS5 port is possible speculation, but no port or release date is confirmed by the cited official listing.
What the Steam estimates can—and cannot—tell players
- 120,000 copies and nearly $7 million: Elliott’s estimate for Steam sales, as reported by Tech4Gamers in 2026. It is not an audited figure or an official Microsoft disclosure.
- Fewer than one million Steam copies during 2026: Elliott’s reported projection, not a final result.
- Not a whole-game sales total: Steam estimates do not represent Xbox or Microsoft Store sales, and they do not count Game Pass access as a Steam copy.
These figures can support a discussion about the potential reach of the PC launch, but they cannot by themselves establish whether the game is succeeding across all platforms or whether a PS5 version would be profitable.

How Xbox and Game Pass affect the platform argument
E-Day has a purchase route on Xbox and PC, while the official listing also offers Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass access at launch. That means a player may be able to play without buying a separate copy, depending on their subscription. The reported Steam estimate measures neither that access nor its contribution to the game’s audience. A PS5 launch could broaden availability, but the cited sources do not quantify the likely audience, cost, or revenue of such a port.
