Whether its riffs and rhythm section make the same impression is where reviews diverge: critics praise the voice and select songs, but disagree about the consistency of the playing, production, and songwriting.
What kind of metal is Show No Fear?
Crimson Steel’s second album sits in the territory of traditional heavy metal and US power metal, with progressive touches. Those labels are useful signposts rather than strict categories. The band describes its sound as traditional heavy metal with a progressive edge; Heaven and Hell Records markets this edition as traditional power metal.
The band names Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Savatage, Crimson Glory, and Queensrÿche among its influences. The label’s reference points include Queensrÿche, Dio, Chastain, Hammerfall, and Judas Priest. The track titles—among them “Dark Rider,” “Century Sword,” and “Prelude to the Blade”—reinforce a dramatic, sword-and-shadow atmosphere.
Release, lineup, and track list
Heaven and Hell Records released Show No Fear on May 1, 2026. The lineup is Tina Langevin on lead vocals, David Ryan on guitars and backing vocals, Joel McGee on bass and vocals, and Will Adkins on drums and backing vocals. James Rivera joins Langevin for “Bleed into One.”

The opening track is listed officially as “As Below, So Above,” though some reviews reverse the wording. “Prelude to the Blade” is an instrumental interlude. The Bandcamp page offers a CD plus digital album, streaming through its app, and downloads up to 24-bit/44.1kHz; that download specification describes the offered files, not playback quality. The label describes the CD as including an eight-page booklet and complete lyrics.
What the reviews praise—and question
The three published reviews deliver notably different overall assessments, so there is no clear critical consensus. Their points of agreement and disagreement are most useful when separated by aspect of the album.

Vocals and standout performances
Tina Langevin’s voice is the most consistently praised element. Pablo Rumel’s July 17, 2026 review for The Nwothm (6/10) highlights her range, while Matt Coe’s September 30, 2026 review for Dead Rhetoric (8.5/10) emphasizes her upper register. Sargon the Terrible’s July 17, 2026 Metal Crypt review (3.5/5) calls her charismatic, even as it takes issue with the riffs and songwriting.
“Bleed into One,” the duet with James Rivera, is a particular dividing line only in degree: both Rumel and Coe identify the vocal pairing as a strength. Rumel singles out its emotional impact; Coe praises the performance. Coe also highlights the atmosphere of “Century Sword.”

Riffs, rhythm section, and production
The more critical readings focus on how the band supports its vocal lead. Rumel argues that the rhythm guitars, drums, and mix weaken the songs, while praising Joel McGee’s bass playing. The Metal Crypt review describes the riffs as basic and the songwriting as insufficiently distinctive. These are reviewers’ judgments, not settled facts about the recording.
Coe’s more favorable assessment gives greater weight to riffs and melodies alongside Langevin’s vocals, suggesting that listeners who respond to the album’s atmosphere and traditional-metal craft may hear its strengths more clearly than those seeking consistently sharp rhythmic execution or highly individual songwriting.

Is Show No Fear worth listening to?
It is a reasonable pick for listeners who want classic heavy or power metal anchored by a prominent singer, especially if a dramatic mood and the Langevin–Rivera duet appeal. The case is less compelling for anyone who needs tightly locked rhythm guitars and drums, especially distinctive riffs, or a production that reviewers uniformly regard as effective. The split between the 6/10, 8.5/10, and 3.5/5 reviews reflects those different priorities more than a single verdict.
