One buyer’s reported refusal concerns a specific PS5 Slim 1TB purchase; it does not establish that every Instamart listing, or every quick-commerce purchase, is excluded. Check the invoice seller with Sony and keep your purchase and support records.
What happened in the reported Instamart case?
On October 2, 2026, TalkEsport reported that a buyer said they had purchased a sealed PS5 Slim 1TB through Swiggy Instamart on September 27 and Sony refused warranty registration because the seller named on the invoice was not an authorised Sony India dealer. The report named PYD Retail Pvt Ltd (Avantika) as the invoice seller, attributing that detail to PlayStationInfo. TalkEsport’s report describes the buyer’s account; it is not an independently verified Sony finding or a published Sony statement about the order.
Digit also reported the buyer’s account, including the buyer’s claim that Sony requested the invoice, console serial number and warranty card, and that the buyer approached the National Consumer Helpline. That coverage does not establish the outcome or merits of the complaint. Read Digit’s account.
Does a PS5 bought from Swiggy Instamart get a Sony warranty?
There is no platform-wide answer in the available official guidance. Sony India’s published consumer warranty terms say coverage is for the first end user who buys from a Sony Authorised Dealer, and that the warranty card and original purchase invoice must be presented together for service. PlayStation’s India buying guide recommends authorised retailers for new consoles to help ensure authenticity, return policy and warranty coverage. Neither source says that every product sold through a marketplace or quick-commerce app is automatically excluded.

The practical question is therefore who sold the particular console, whether Sony recognises that seller as authorised, and whether Sony can validate the unit and its proof of purchase. What to check before you buy
- Find the invoice seller. Check who will issue the tax invoice; do not assume the app or platform is the seller.
- Ask for written confirmation. Ask the named seller and Sony support whether that seller is authorised and whether the specific PS5 model or SKU is eligible for India warranty service.
- Compare terms before paying. Check the seller’s and platform’s return or replacement conditions and how long any applicable window remains open.
- Prefer an authorised retailer. This is consistent with PlayStation’s India buying guidance for new consoles.
What to do when the console arrives
- Save the records: keep the order page, seller details, invoice, warranty card and any written assurances from the seller or platform.
- Check the identifying details: compare the model and serial information on the console with the product documents and invoice where applicable.
- Ask Sony to verify this unit: provide the invoice and model or serial details to Sony support or an authorised service centre, and keep the response in writing. Sony India’s Repair & Warranty page links to support and service-centre information.
If Sony refuses warranty service
- Ask Sony to state the reason for refusal and identify the relevant warranty term in writing.
- Contact the invoice seller and Swiggy Instamart promptly, especially if a return or replacement period may still be available. Keep their replies and any case numbers.
- Preserve the order listing, invoice, warranty card, console details and all support correspondence in case you need to pursue the matter further.
Sony’s India warranty terms say the manufacturer warranty does not affect statutory rights under Indian law or the consumer’s rights against the dealer arising from the sale. PlayStation’s India guarantee likewise says it does not affect statutory consumer rights. Those statements distinguish a manufacturer warranty decision from other rights; they do not determine the outcome of any particular complaint. What is established—and what is not
- Sony’s published terms make the authorised-dealer relationship and proof of purchase relevant to warranty service.
- One buyer has been reported as saying that Sony refused registration after an Instamart purchase because of the invoice seller’s authorisation status.
- The reporting does not prove that all Instamart PS5s, all quick-commerce purchases or all marketplace listings lack Sony warranty coverage.
- The available official material does not include a Sony public statement about this specific order or a clearly dated PS5-specific warranty term. Confirm current, unit-specific eligibility directly with Sony rather than relying on a general duration reported elsewhere.
