There is no mechanically superior choice in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s “Witcher Wannabe”: Gamer Guides reports the same 10 XP for finding the fake Witcher and 75 XP for completing the quest whichever outcome you choose. Your decision changes what happens to him, so pick the response that fits your Geralt.
How to start Witcher Wannabe
First complete the Velen contract “The Merry Widow.” Then return to Lindenvale and speak to the ealdorman near the signpost. The quest becomes available after an in-game wait: Prima Games says five days, while Gamer Guides recommends returning after roughly a week. Where to find the fake Witcher
Travel east from Lindenvale to the cemetery. Use Witcher Senses to find tracks leading from the cemetery toward the fake Witcher. The guides describe hostile creatures in the cemetery area, but their encounter details differ; follow the tracks rather than relying on a particular enemy count or type.

When two villagers arrive and question Geralt, choose whether to expose the fraud or cover for him. Each approach leads to two possible resolutions:

Which Witcher Wannabe choice is best?
For a merciful outcome, expose the fraud and persuade the villagers to let him go. If you want him to make amends through service, cover for him and require a year of work. Turning him over to the ealdorman brings the harshest punishment described by the guide; covering for him and exiling him sets a firm boundary without handing him over.

Gamer Guides reports 10 XP for locating the fake Witcher and 75 XP for quest completion across the choices. Those are the guide’s reported in-game rewards, not an independently measured result. Its walkthrough does not establish wider quest or main-story consequences, so there is no supported gameplay advantage that makes one branch objectively best.
