Dan Houser entwickelt mit Absurd Ventures zwei eigenständige Open-World-Spiele: eines im Science-Fiction-Universum A Better Paradise, das andere im satirischen Absurdaverse. Die Konzepte unterscheiden sich deutlich; konkrete Spieltitel, Plattformen, genaue Gameplay-Systeme und Veröffentlichungstermine sind bislang nicht öffentlich belegt.
Welche Spiele entwickelt Dan Houser?
Houser gründete Absurd Ventures nach seinem Abschied von Rockstar. Das Unternehmen ist nicht ausschließlich auf Videospiele ausgerichtet, sondern baut fiktionale Welten über verschiedene Medien hinweg auf. Die beiden bekannten Spiele gehören zu getrennten Universen: A Better Paradise und dem Absurdaverse. Sie sind weder als Fortsetzungen von Grand Theft Auto angekündigt noch als Spiele, die die GTA-Marke verwenden. The Guardian ordnete Housers neues Unternehmen und seine damaligen Projektbeschreibungen im Dezember 2025 ein.
A Better Paradise: ein Science-Fiction-Universum mit Audiofiktion und Roman
Das Spiel ist Teil eines Universums, das bereits eine Audiofiktion und den Roman A Better Paradise: Volume One: An Aftermath umfasst. Im Zentrum der Geschichte steht ein experimentelles digitales Spielweltprojekt unter der Leitung des Erfinders Dr. Mark Tyburn. Beunruhigende Ergebnisse führen dazu, dass das Vorhaben aufgegeben wird. Wie genau das Videospiel an die Handlung von Audiofiktion und Roman anschließt, ist nicht erläutert.
In einem Interview mit Publishers Weekly im März 2025 sagte Houser, das Spiel werde noch „mehrere Jahre“ in Entwicklung sein. Das ist eine qualitative Einschätzung aus dem Jahr 2025, kein konkretes Veröffentlichungsfenster. Der Guardian berichtete im Dezember 2025, Mark Tyburn und die KI NigelDave sollten im Spiel eine Rolle haben; diese damalige Beschreibung bestätigt nicht, dass der aktuelle Entwurf unverändert ist. Absurdaverse: Comedy-Satire als „living sitcom“
Das zweite Projekt ist ein storygetriebenes Action-Comedy-Adventure im satirischen Absurdaverse. Houser beschrieb es als „a living sitcom“ und als ein ausdrücklich spielmechanisch geprägtes Spiel: „It’s a completely gamey game – very mechanics driven.“ Die Zitate wurden vom Guardian wiedergegeben. Sie vermitteln Ton und kreative Ausrichtung, aber keine konkreten Spielsysteme, Figuren oder Missionen.
Der Guardian bezeichnete das Projekt als Open-World-Spiel. Über konkrete Verbindungen zu bestimmten Animationsplänen des Absurdaverse oder über den Umfang der Spielwelt liegen keine näheren Angaben vor. Der Guardian-Bericht zu Houser enthält seine Beschreibung des Konzepts.

Wie unterscheiden sich die beiden Open-World-Spiele?
Absurd-Ventures-Mitgründer Lazlow sagte, die beiden Spiele seien „vastly different open worlds“ und würden parallel entwickelt. Er beschrieb außerdem, dass Ideen für Figuren oder Umgebungen zwischen den Projekten Anregungen liefern könnten. Das ist eine Aussage über kreativen Austausch, kein veröffentlichter Produktionsplan. Die Gegenüberstellung zeigt vor allem unterschiedliche Tonlagen und Ausgangswelten. Ein detaillierter Vergleich der Spielmechaniken wäre verfrüht, denn bislang gibt es nur für das Absurdaverse eine allgemeine Aussage zur Mechanik-Ausrichtung, nicht aber konkrete Beschreibungen einzelner Systeme.

Die beiden Spiele passen in Housers medienübergreifenden Ansatz, sind aber nicht mit anderen Projekten gleichzusetzen. Ein Beispiel dafür ist American Caper, eine gemeinsam mit Lazlow entwickelte Comicreihe bei Dark Horse Comics. GamesBeat beschrieb sie im September 2026 als satirische Geschichte im ländlichen Wyoming, die unter anderem Kriminalität, politischen Extremismus, Sucht und Gier aufgreift. Der Bericht belegt nicht, dass American Caper eines der beiden Spiele ist. GamesBeat berichtete über den Comic.
