That is faster account progression on paper, not proof that the account owner has improved or can maintain the new rank. Riot classifies boosting and related carry arrangements as ranked manipulation, and enforcement can include suspensions, rank or reward removal, and permanent bans for repeat offenses.
What a League of Legends rank boosting service does
Riot defines boosting as a more skilled player logging into another player’s account to play Ranked games and inflate its MMR. It calls a paid or arranged climb with another player “hitchhiking” (also known as bussing); Riot’s enforcement FAQ says that a booster duo-queueing with a customer on a smurf account to inflate the customer’s MMR can also count as boosting. Riot’s August 2025 explanation says boosting applies whether or not the account is eventually returned to its owner.
In either arrangement, the faster results come from someone else’s play or a stronger teammate—not necessarily from the account owner’s own performance. The account’s MMR and displayed rank may rise, but that change alone does not establish that the owner has learned the skills needed at that level.
How much faster can boosting get you to the next rank?
There is no reliable figure for how many games or days a boost saves. Riot’s published materials explain how boosting works and how it is detected, but they do not establish an average speed, service win rate, rank-retention rate, or personal skill gain. Providers’ claims about timelines or guaranteed results should not be treated as independently verified evidence.

Ranked progression is tied to MMR as well as visible rank. Riot says its enforcement looks at MMR and unusual changes, rather than relying only on the rank shown on screen; it has not published a “safe” rank gap or amount of change. Its 2026 Vanguard article describes Anti-Boost as detecting significant ranked-point gains after a higher-rated player logs into an account and performs far above the account’s usual user. Riot’s Anti-Boost explanation does not provide a guarantee that a particular boost will be detected—or that any provider can keep a rank change in place.
Can you get banned for Elo boosting?
Yes. Riot treats account sharing for rank inflation and hitchhiking as ranked manipulation. It began rolling out penalties in waves with Patch 25.18 in 2025; the company also says penalty linking began in Patch 25.23. Riot’s Account Penalties and Enforcement FAQ describes a first-offense three-day ban, a second-offense 14-day ban, and a third-offense permanent ban, as well as Honor reduction and exclusion from or revocation of that season’s Ranked rewards.

Riot’s later summaries do not present an identical penalty schedule. Its Player Support article, displayed as updated May 24, 2026, gives a 14–180-day suspension range and says repeat offenders may receive a permanent ban. Riot’s 2026 Vanguard article also describes rank or reward revocation and escalating suspensions. The outcome therefore depends on Riot’s enforcement; no service can promise that an account will avoid penalties.
Riot reported 296,416 accounts actioned for rank manipulation across League of Legends and VALORANT “since late last year” in its 2026 Vanguard article. That is a combined figure, not a League-only count, and it does not establish the probability that a particular account will be actioned.

Does boosting help you improve?
A higher account rank is not the same as a higher skill level. If someone else plays the Ranked games, those games do not show that the owner has developed the decision-making, mechanics, or consistency needed to perform at the new level. The reviewed Riot materials provide no evidence that boosting itself improves the owner’s play or that a boosted rank will last.
If your goal is to improve, keep control of your account and play Ranked yourself. A friend who is much higher-ranked should not use an alternate account to carry you in Ranked; Riot says that can be ranked manipulation. Its FAQ says you can play together in normal Summoner’s Rift queues and other game modes instead.

Account security: why sharing credentials matters
Giving another player your login details means giving up control of account access. Riot Support explicitly warns that some players who share credentials with a potential booster find their account stolen and sold or traded. That does not mean every service steals accounts, but it is a risk Riot specifically identifies. Riot’s advice is direct: “One should never share their log-in information with another player, no exceptions.”
Safer ways to play with friends and progress
- For personal improvement: play Ranked on your own account so your match results reflect your play.
- To play with a higher-ranked friend: choose normal Summoner’s Rift queues or another game mode rather than having the friend carry you in Ranked on a smurf.
- For alternate accounts: Riot says self-created, self-leveled accounts can be legitimate when played honestly, without deranking or other ranked manipulation.
These alternatives avoid the account takeover involved in login-based boosting and the ranked carry arrangement Riot identifies as manipulation.
