Why both teams are looking to build on Week 3
Indianapolis beat Houston 19–17, while Washington defeated Seattle 33–31. NFL.com characterized those results as each team’s first win of the season. The close scores set up a matchup between two teams trying to turn a single win into momentum.
Matchups to watch
Jonathan Taylor against Washington’s run defense
NFL.com’s 2026 preview reported that Taylor had 66 rushing attempts through three games, tied for the league lead, while averaging fewer than four yards per carry and not yet reaching 100 rushing yards in a game. Washington had allowed 246 rushing yards through three weeks, the third-lowest total in the NFL, at 3.8 yards per carry. The same preview listed a 25% run-stuff rate for Washington and five runs of 10 or more yards allowed. Those early-season figures describe the matchup entering this game; they are not a forecast of Taylor’s output.

Mariota stepping in for Daniels
Washington ruled out Jayden Daniels. The Colts’ preview said Marcus Mariota would be behind center. In Week 3 against Seattle, Mariota threw three touchdown passes without an interception and posted a passer rating above 110, according to NFL.com’s preview. The London start puts the focus on whether Washington can sustain that offensive production with Mariota leading the attack.
Receiving options and the opposing secondaries
NFL.com also identified receiver-versus-secondary matchups as potential pressure points for both teams. Those matchups could shape how each offense responds if the run game is contained, but the available preview does not establish a reliable outcome or a predicted winner.

Colts safety Cam Bynum described the team’s flight to London as “a little nap,” in a quote reported by Colts.com writer JJ Stankevitz on October 2, 2026. On Indianapolis’ defense, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner said, “We have to continue to prove it each and every week, who we are as a defense,” adding, “And last week was great improvement.”
