Cleveland beat Pittsburgh 27–24 on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when kicker Andre Szmyt made a 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining. The Browns had led 21–7 before the Steelers rallied to tie the game, setting up a late Cleveland drive.
How the Browns built their lead
Pittsburgh opened the scoring with a 12-yard jet-sweep touchdown by Roman Wilson, finishing a 78-yard, 17-play drive. Cleveland answered after Denzel Ward intercepted Aaron Rodgers early in the second quarter. The Browns scored three touchdowns before halftime: Jaleel McLaughlin ran for 28 yards, Quinshon Judkins scored on a two-yard run, and Harold Fannin Jr. caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson. Pittsburgh added a field goal and went into halftime trailing 21–10.
How Pittsburgh tied it
The Steelers pulled within five in the fourth quarter when Rodgers found Darnell Washington for a 21-yard touchdown. Pittsburgh failed on the two-point attempt, leaving the score 21–16. Rodgers later threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth, then ran in the tying two-point conversion to make it 24–24 with 1:44 left.
Cleveland’s final drive and the deciding kick
Watson completed four of five passes for 46 yards on Cleveland’s winning drive, including two completions to Jerry Jeudy for 27 yards. A sack with 19 seconds remaining pushed the Browns back, but Szmyt converted from 56 yards with 10 seconds left. Pittsburgh got one final play: Rodgers’ Hail Mary was intercepted by Grant Delpit at Cleveland’s 18-yard line.
