They could not hold the lead: Boston tied the game in the third and won 4–3 in overtime on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Canada Life Centre.
How Ferraro scored his first goal as a Jet
Winnipeg struck first through Dylan DeMelo, but Boston led 2–1 after the opening period. Kyle Connor tied the game on a second-period power play. The Jets said the goal extended Connor’s NHL-record run of season openers with a goal to nine.
With less than 15 seconds left in the second, Adam Lowry worked the puck down low and sent it back to Ferraro. The defenceman’s shot deflected off a Boston player and went in, giving Winnipeg a 3–2 lead and Ferraro his first goal in a Jets uniform. Winnipeg’s recap describes the sequence; Boston’s recap also lists Ferraro among Winnipeg’s scorers.
Boston forced overtime and finished the comeback
The Jets’ lead lasted into the third period. At 18:22, Elias Lindholm tied the game for Boston with goaltender Jeremy Swayman pulled for an extra attacker. JJ Peterka scored 3:21 into overtime to give the Bruins a 4–3 win. Winnipeg’s first goal of the season was therefore a personal milestone for Ferraro, not a winning moment for the team.

What Ferraro brought to Winnipeg
Ferraro’s Winnipeg debut was his first game for a new team, not his NHL debut. The Jets announced on July 1, 2026, that the Toronto-born, left-shot defenceman had agreed to a three-year contract with a $4 million average annual value. The team listed him as 27 at the time of its signing announcement.
In his final season with San Jose, Ferraro played all 82 games in 2025–26 and recorded 23 points (seven goals and 16 assists), according to Winnipeg. He led the Sharks with 150 blocked shots and averaged 21:02 of ice time per game. Before joining the Jets, he had played 490 career NHL games for San Jose, with 114 points. Those team-reported figures show the established defensive workload behind the debut scoring moment; one goal does not by itself establish a change in his offensive role.
