In 2013, Bernhard Raimann stood among the crowd at Wembley Stadium watching the Minnesota Vikings play the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had only recently begun playing American football, and the NFL players looked like “superheroes.” Ahead of Indianapolis’s scheduled return to London in 2026, Raimann is no longer watching from the stands: he is the Colts’ starting left tackle.
How did Bernhard Raimann get to the NFL?
From Vienna Vikings wide receiver to Michigan tight end
Raimann’s route began in Austria with the Vienna Vikings, where he played wide receiver. A foreign-exchange year took him to Michigan, where he attended Central Michigan and played tight end before making another position change. The Colts’ retrospective on his path describes that exchange year as a step toward the NFL.
A move to the offensive line
Raimann switched from tight end to the offensive line, a transformation that led to the 2022 NFL Draft. Indianapolis selected him 77th overall in the third round. The team’s player profile identifies him as a left tackle.
What was Raimann’s connection to Wembley?
The 2013 Vikings-Steelers game gave Raimann a view of the NFL before he had any reason to expect he might one day play in it. Recalling that experience to reporters in England on October 2, 2026, he said the players seemed like “superheroes.” More than a decade later, his return to London would be from the other side of the spectacle: as a Colts starter, stepping onto the field at a stadium where he once watched as a young fan.

Raimann said that understanding what the game means to people in London made the return “extremely special.” He also spoke about the possibility that his path could encourage a young fan: “I really hope that some kid can see me and listen to my story or see what’s possible and hopefully they can embrace their dreams and keep working every day and shoot, see what happens.”

As listed by the Colts’ official London page, Indianapolis was scheduled to face Washington on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. What do Raimann’s career numbers show?
The Colts’ 2025 media guide records 45 games played and 40 starts through the 2024 season. Those are historical totals ending with the 2024 season, not a current career count. The figures give a dated snapshot of how quickly the former Wembley spectator established himself in the NFL after being drafted.
