Colin Porter was reported ineligible for Marquette’s 2026–27 season after the NCAA won a Kentucky court case, according to an Oct. 2, 2026 RotoWire update attributing the news to The Field of 68. The court order and its reasoning have not been established in the available sources, so the report does not support a more specific explanation of why he was ruled ineligible.
What is known about Porter’s eligibility
Marquette announced Porter as a transfer from Liberty for the 2026–27 campaign on Aug. 27, 2026. Four days later? No: the reported ineligibility update came on Oct. 2, 2026. RotoWire said the NCAA had won a Kentucky court case and attributed the development to The Field of 68. RotoWire’s Oct. 2 update.
The underlying order was not available in the cited coverage. Its date, precise terms, legal reasoning, the specific court, and whether an appeal is planned or pending are not established. There is also no direct Marquette or NCAA confirmation of this player-specific development in the available sources. Accordingly, “ruled ineligible” should be understood as the Oct. 2 report, not as a conclusion independently verified from a court document.
How the Kentucky case relates to Porter
An Aug. 22 report on Kentucky litigation named Porter among plaintiffs seeking a fifth year and said a judge had granted the plaintiffs temporary relief. That is earlier context, not the later order described in the Oct. 2 update, and it does not explain the precise basis or scope of the subsequent reported decision. Why Marquette’s roster still lists him as a fifth-year player
Marquette’s 2026–27 roster lists Porter as a fifth-year, 5-foot-10 guard from Ashland, Kentucky. That roster information reflects his team listing and playing history; it is not itself an NCAA eligibility determination. Marquette announced his arrival after four seasons at Liberty, where he started all 135 games in which he appeared. Marquette’s roster entry and Aug. 27 announcement.
Do not confuse Porter’s case with the Colorado ruling
A separate Colorado appellate decision was reported on Aug. 21 to have paused a broad eligibility order. The Associated Press said other lawsuits remained active. That Colorado litigation is distinct from the Kentucky case tied to Porter in the Oct. 2 report; the available accounts do not establish that the Colorado decision governed Porter’s eligibility.
