Jaguars coach Liam Coen says Travis Hunter’s role is about helping Jacksonville win, not preserving a certain number of offensive snaps or justifying his draft position. An Associated Press report says Hunter had played 15 offensive snaps across the team’s first three games, with receiver competition and more two-tight-end formations limiting his work on offense.
What Coen said about Hunter’s role
“He cares about winning. That’s what he cares about,” Coen said, according to the Associated Press report syndicated by theScore. Coen added that he was not concerned with Hunter’s reps or where Jacksonville drafted him, saying, “We care about winning, and that’s it.”
The comments answer the immediate question about Hunter’s workload: Coen publicly defended the team’s approach rather than promising more offensive playing time. They do not, by themselves, establish what Hunter’s role will be in later games.
Why Hunter’s offensive snaps were limited
The AP report says Hunter had played 15 offensive snaps in Jacksonville’s first three games. It describes a crowded and changing offensive picture: the Jaguars had acquired Jakobi Meyers in a late-year trade, Parker Washington had taken the No. 1 receiver role, rookie Josh Cameron was emerging, and the team was using two tight ends more often.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those are the factors the report gives for Hunter’s smaller receiver role; it does not attribute the snap total to one single decision or say that any of those players permanently displaced him. Hunter had been expected to be a featured receiver, but a right-knee ligament injury in practice ended his previous season, and the report says he did not receive full clearance until the start of training camp.
Hunter’s defensive contribution
The account also points to progress on defense. Hunter broke up a pass in Week 2 in Denver and recorded his first interception the following week against New England. The report says Hunter had played more offense than defense the previous season, making the current balance notably different from that earlier usage.

Hunter also addressed a costly pass-interference penalty in Cincinnati the prior season, saying, “We gave him a chance to be able to call that call. I just got to put myself in the right position the whole game.” His comment frames the play as a responsibility to execute after the call, rather than a dispute over the penalty.
The draft investment behind the debate
Jacksonville traded up three spots to select Hunter in the 2025 draft. The AP report says the Jaguars sent two first-round picks, a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick to move up; Cleveland sent back fourth- and sixth-round selections. That investment helps explain why Hunter’s playing time attracts attention, but Coen said draft position was not his measure of the player’s value to the team.
