First, compare OBS’s program output with the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. If the wrong episode is already visible in OBS, check the active scene, source visibility and order, and the media file or playlist. If OBS shows the intended episode but YouTube does not, inspect YouTube’s stream-health indicator and timestamped errors. Those checks can reveal delivery or encoding problems, but they cannot identify which episode you meant to play.
Find where the mismatch starts
Compare the actual OBS program output—not just a source’s properties—with the YouTube Live Control Room preview. OBS combines scenes and sources into its output; YouTube displays the stream it receives. This comparison is a practical way to narrow the problem, not a dedicated troubleshooting procedure documented by either service. OBS’s Sources Guide and YouTube’s live streaming error messages documentation describe the respective sides.
- Wrong episode in OBS and YouTube: start with the active OBS scene and the source playing or capturing the episode.
- Right episode in OBS, wrong result in YouTube: check the selected YouTube live event and stream-health messages. Establish whether the mismatch is actually in the received video, or instead in audio, title, thumbnail, or replay.
YouTube’s health diagnostics concern stream ingestion and configuration. They do not confirm which local episode OBS selected.
If OBS itself shows the wrong episode
Check the active scene and source stack
- In OBS, confirm that the scene currently sent to program output is the scene you intended to use.
- In that scene’s Sources list, check that the intended episode source is visible. The eye control toggles source visibility.
- Inspect the order of visible sources. A higher source can cover a lower one, so a different video source may be obscuring the intended episode.
- If the video is correct but the sound is from another episode, inspect the audio sources and the active scene as well; a visual check alone will not catch an audio mismatch.
OBS explains that scenes and sources determine what appears in its output, and that sources higher in the list can appear above and hide lower sources in the Sources Guide.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the episode is a Media Source file
Open the Media Source’s properties and verify the selected file path and filename. Then check its playback options. OBS’s Media Sources documentation says “Restart playback when source becomes active” defaults to on, while “Loop” defaults to off. A source becoming active can therefore restart playback, depending on its settings.
Also check whether “Close file when inactive” is enabled. When an inactive source is unloaded and later shown again, it may need a short time to reload. This can look like a playback interruption, though it does not by itself establish why the wrong file is selected.

If the episodes are in a VLC playlist
Inspect the VLC Video source’s playlist and confirm the intended episode is included and in the expected position. Check shuffle as well as looping: OBS documents shuffle as off by default and playlist looping as on by default. If VLC Video is unavailable or does not behave as expected, OBS notes that VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.
If OBS captures a browser, window, or display
Confirm that the captured browser tab, application window, or desktop is showing the intended episode. Check that the capture source is visible and not covered by another source. If the captured page has its own queue or player, verify the selected episode there; OBS can show what the capture contains, but it does not choose the content inside that application.

If OBS looks right but YouTube does not
- Open the relevant live stream in YouTube Live Control Room and compare its preview with OBS’s program output.
- Read the stream-health indicator and its timestamped error messages. Match the time of an error to when the mismatch began.
- Use the message to investigate the reported delivery or encoding issue, such as format, codec, bitrate, sample rate, channel count, video settings, or keyframes. These diagnostics do not tell you which episode file or playlist item was intended.
- Make sure you are comparing the intended live event, rather than a different scheduled stream or a replay. Determine whether the discrepancy concerns video, audio, title, thumbnail, or replay before changing OBS settings.
YouTube describes these messages in its live streaming error documentation. For API-based monitoring, Google’s Live Streaming API health-status guide, updated September 14, 2026, lists configuration issues including missing or multiple audio/video streams, codecs, bitrates, frame rate, and keyframe frequency. Use that information to diagnose stream configuration, not content selection.
What to record if it keeps happening
Before changing several settings at once, note the details that separate a source-selection issue from a delivery issue:

- The active scene and source type: Media Source, VLC playlist, browser capture, window capture, or display capture.

- Whether the mismatch affects video, audio, title, thumbnail, or replay.
- The time the issue began and any timestamped YouTube health errors.
That information makes it possible to describe what differs and where it first appears without assuming a cause. One OBS issue report from 2022 described intermittent audio disagreement while switching scenes, but it concerned OBS 28.1.2 on Windows 10 and does not establish a general or current cause for a wrong-episode symptom: OBS issue #7879.
