To play a serial podcast archive from its first episode, set the podcast’s default video order to oldest-to-newest in YouTube Studio. For a regular playlist, reorder the videos manually. The right order depends on whether listeners should follow the story from the beginning or can start with any episode.
Choose the right order for the show
YouTube distinguishes between serial shows, which are intended to be followed sequentially, and non-serial shows, whose episodes can be watched in any order. For a serial show—where later episodes build on earlier ones—oldest-to-newest lets a new listener start at the beginning. For a standalone or episodic show, newest-to-oldest can make recent episodes easier to discover. Set a podcast playlist to oldest-to-newest
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content → Podcasts.
- Select the podcast you want to change and open its editing details.
- Find Default Video Order and choose the oldest-to-newest option for a serial archive.
- Save the change.
The setting applies to the podcast’s episode order. YouTube may change Studio controls or labels, so consult its podcast setup instructions if the path looks different.
Reorder an ordinary playlist manually
If your archive is a standard YouTube playlist rather than a podcast, you can arrange its videos yourself:

- In YouTube Studio, open Content → Playlists and select the playlist, or open the playlist page on YouTube.
- Drag episodes into the intended sequence, placing the earliest episode first.
- Save or confirm the change if prompted, then check the playlist as a viewer to verify the order.
YouTube documents playlist editing in Manage playlists in YouTube Studio. Manual ordering gives you control over the sequence, but unlike an RSS-fed archive, it depends on you maintaining the playlist as episodes are added.
Understand RSS dates and the channel’s Videos tab
For episodes delivered through an RSS feed, YouTube uses the feed’s release date to determine playlist order when that date is available; otherwise, it falls back to the YouTube publish date. YouTube says it does not verify the RSS release date. The date shown to viewers can also vary by YouTube surface, while the channel’s Videos tab is sorted by YouTube upload date. As a result, a podcast playlist can be in chronological order even when the channel’s Videos tab appears in a different order. Details are in YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed.

If you mean a live rebroadcast, not a playlist
Organizing a podcast playlist does not create a continuous live broadcast. If you rebroadcast an archive as a YouTube live stream, treat stream retention as a separate issue: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
