That does not necessarily equal 70% of the price a viewer sees.
This is about trials of a creator’s channel membership, not YouTube Premium trials. They are separate products with different billing rules.
What happens to earnings during a channel membership trial?
YouTube describes channel membership trials as allowing a viewer to become a channel member free of charge for one month. Each viewer can redeem one such trial across creators on YouTube, and the offer is automatically shown to eligible viewers. Because the trial month is free, it does not itself create paid channel membership revenue from that viewer.
YouTube’s revenue-share terms apply to membership revenue recognized by Google. They do not establish that a creator is paid a share of a trial’s notional or displayed price. The distinction is between access to membership perks during a free period and revenue from a paid membership.

What if the viewer pays after the free month?
If the viewer continues as a paid member after the trial, the resulting recognized membership revenue is subject to YouTube’s stated creator share. YouTube says creators get 70% of memberships revenue recognized by Google after local sales tax and other fees are deducted. YouTube currently covers payment-processing fees, including credit-card fees.
The percentage is applied to the revenue base defined by YouTube, not automatically to the full displayed membership price. The amount recognized and applicable deductions can depend on factors including the viewer’s country or region and platform. The creator’s agreement and accepted Commerce Product Module terms also govern. For those reasons, there is no single payout calculation that can be made from the displayed price alone.

Channel membership trials are not YouTube Premium trials
A channel membership trial gives a viewer temporary access to a particular creator’s membership and its perks. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium trial is a separate subscription that provides Premium benefits. Premium trial length can vary, a payment method is required, and the subscription automatically renews at the current price unless canceled before the trial ends.
Premium trial billing rules do not determine what a creator earns from channel memberships. Likewise, a free channel membership trial should not be taken to mean that the creator’s other eligible earnings—such as ad revenue, Premium viewing revenue, or other monetization features—are reduced. Those are separate sources of earnings.

How creators can turn off channel membership trials
If you do not want eligible viewers to receive channel membership trial offers, YouTube lets you opt out in the Memberships tab in YouTube Studio by turning off the relevant trial toggle. The exact visible label may vary as Studio changes.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Memberships tab.
- Find the control for channel membership trials and turn the offer off.
- Check the tab again to confirm the setting reflects your choice.

Where to check membership earnings
In YouTube Studio, open Analytics → Revenue → How you make money → Memberships to review membership data. YouTube’s analytics guidance also covers gifted memberships and redeemed gifts; it does not establish that trial activity appears as a separate analytics line item, so do not assume there will be a dedicated trial-earnings figure.
To earn channel membership revenue, the creator and any applicable MCN must accept YouTube’s Commerce Product Module. Channel memberships are recurring monthly payments exchanged for member perks.

What this means for estimating your income
- Do not count a viewer’s free trial month as paid channel membership revenue.
- Do not multiply every displayed membership price by 70% to estimate take-home revenue; YouTube’s share is based on revenue recognized after applicable taxes and other fees.
- Do not infer a trial’s effect on conversion, retention, or total channel income from the revenue-share percentage. The cited YouTube policy information does not provide a conversion rate or average payout attributable to trials.
- Evaluate trial settings separately from your other monetization. A channel membership trial does not, by itself, establish a change to ad revenue, Premium viewing revenue, or other eligible features.
