You can run a 24/7 nature-sounds livestream from an Indian Windows VPS with OBS, a rights-cleared recording, and a stable route to your chosen platform—but OBS’s automatic reconnect is only one recovery layer, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. First confirm the platform permits your planned continuous stream and the VPS supports sustained outbound streaming, then build and test the OBS scene, configure startup, and arrange monitoring and recovery.
Before setup: confirm the platform, VPS, and audio rights
Check the destination platform
Choose the platform before configuring OBS. Check its current eligibility and account-status rules, whether continuous streams are allowed, accepted formats and bitrate limits, and how it handles stream keys. The sources available here do not establish that any particular platform allows this exact 24/7 use, so verify the current rules directly with your destination.
Verify the Indian Windows VPS plan
Ask the host whether the selected Windows image is supported, whether sustained outbound live streaming is permitted, and what bandwidth, traffic, reboot, and support policies apply. Confirm that the instance exposes the graphics and encoding capabilities your OBS configuration needs. Measure sustained upload performance and the route to the platform’s chosen ingest point; a VPS location in India alone does not establish that the route is stable or fast enough.
OBS lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements, but meeting minimum requirements does not mean a system can stream. These listed requirements do not prove that a particular Windows VPS plan has a usable GPU or encoder. Check OBS’s system requirements and verify the actual instance.

Clear rights to the recording
Use audio you made and control, or obtain a license that explicitly covers the planned public livestream on the chosen platform and any monetization. Keep the license and attribution terms with the file. “Nature sounds” describes the content, not its rights status: a recording may involve rights in the sound recording and other relevant rights. The Copyright Office’s materials discuss sound recordings and communication to the public; review the Copyright Act, Chapter I, Chapter VIII, and the Copyright Office handbook. This is a practical clearance check, not legal advice about a specific recording.
Build a simple OBS scene
- Install and open OBS on the VPS. Follow OBS’s Quick Start Guide to configure the app for the available hardware and network. Test the workflow on the actual VPS rather than assuming a desktop configuration will behave the same way.
- Add the visual. Add a static image or a looping visual to the scene. Keep the visual simple if the audio is the main content.
- Add the audio source. Use the cleared nature recording as the source. Confirm the intended device or source is selected and that the OBS audio meter moves. If the meter is inactive, explicitly select the correct source and check the VPS’s audio behavior.
- Listen to a test output. Check that the sound is audible and not clipping. Windows Server audio behavior across remote desktop sessions is not established universally; confirm audio continues in the user/session context you intend to use.
Configure the stream and choose a sustainable bitrate
Connect OBS to the platform
- In OBS, select the destination platform under the streaming service options, or choose a custom server if the destination supplies one.
- Enter the current stream key. Treat it like a password: do not share it or include it in screenshots, scripts, or public notes. If it is exposed, use the destination’s controls to replace it.
- Set the output resolution, encoder, and bitrate to values the destination accepts and the VPS can sustain. OBS supports configuring a service or custom server, stream key, and bitrate; see the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
Set bitrate from the route you can sustain
There is no universal bitrate established here for a 24/7 nature stream. The right value depends on the platform’s current limits, the chosen codec and resolution, and stable upload performance from the VPS to the ingest server. A static visual may not need a high video bitrate, but lowering it does not compensate for an unstable route or a platform setting that rejects the stream.

The National Informatics Centre’s webcast service states guidance of 2–4 Mbps of dedicated network bandwidth per stream. That is NIC guidance for its webcast service, not a universal OBS minimum or a guarantee that a consumer platform, VPS, or route will work at that rate. NIC’s available-services page provides that figure. NIC also describes 24×7 live webcast services for certain government channels; that describes its own service, not the reliability of a third-party VPS or creator platform. See NIC Webcast Services.
Test before going live
- Run a test for several minutes before publishing. OBS recommends testing settings before the first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
- Verify at the destination that the stream appears, the audio is audible, and the visual behaves as intended.
- Watch OBS’s audio meters and stream status. Check logs for sustained dropped frames rather than judging only by whether OBS says it is connected.
- Restart OBS and reboot the VPS, then confirm that the scene, audio source, connection, and startup behavior still work.
Configure Windows startup and recovery
Launch OBS automatically
OBS documents the --startstreaming launch argument. For scheduled or otherwise automated Windows launches, OBS says the working directory should be the folder containing obs64.exe. Use the task or startup method supported by your VPS setup, and ensure it runs in the Windows user/session context where OBS and its audio source are available. See OBS Launch Parameters.

Do not assume that closing a remote desktop session, logging out, or restarting Windows preserves the audio source. The reviewed documentation does not establish one universal Windows Server setting for persistent audio across remote sessions; test the exact configuration on your VPS.
Enable reconnect, then plan beyond it
Enable OBS automatic reconnect in its streaming settings. It can help when a connection drops, but it cannot guarantee that OBS, Windows, the VPS, or the destination will recover from every failure. Decide how you will detect a dead stream, recover after a reboot, protect or replace a compromised stream key, and notify an operator. If you use a watchdog or scheduled relaunch, prevent it from creating duplicate OBS instances or repeatedly publishing a broken feed. No particular monitoring product or recovery script is established here.

Troubleshoot common failures
