A Super Chat chargeback is not the same as a buyer asking to undo a voluntary payment. YouTube says voluntary Super Chats are non-refundable; someone who says they did not make a purchase should use YouTube’s unauthorized-charge reporting process. Creators can check Studio records and contact Creator Support if eligible, but YouTube’s published guidance does not describe a creator appeal process for an individual card chargeback.
First identify which kind of payment problem you have

These are distinct situations. The non-refundable rule for voluntary payments does not remove the unauthorized-charge reporting route. The 120-day period is YouTube’s support-reporting window, not a statement of a bank or card issuer’s dispute deadline. If you are a buyer reporting a charge you did not make
- Check the statement entry. Confirm that the transaction is a YouTube charge. YouTube explains how its charges may appear on a statement; if the entry does not match the formats it lists, contact the card issuer.
- Ask family or friends who may have access to the account or payment method. YouTube specifically advises checking whether someone else, including a child, made an accidental purchase.
- Report the charge to YouTube if nobody you know made it. Submit the unauthorized-charge report within YouTube’s stated 120-day window from the transaction.
- Keep the claim details. YouTube says you need the email address used to file the report and the claim ID sent by email to find and track the claim.
If you discover that the purchase was unauthorized but accidental rather than fraud, YouTube directs you to request a refund on its website. That is different from reporting a charge that nobody authorized. Read the current steps at Report unauthorized charges on YouTube.
If you are the creator: check Studio, then seek account-specific help
Review the purchase record
Sign in to the YouTube account connected to the affected channel and open YouTube Studio. YouTube’s help guidance says creators can view Super Chat and Super Sticker purchases from the past 30 days in Studio. Check Supers revenue in Analytics
Review the Supers revenue reports in Analytics for the corresponding revenue view. A purchase record and the creator’s reported revenue are not necessarily the same amount: YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google after deductions for local sales taxes and iOS App Store fees. Do not treat that share as 70% of the original gross payment in every case; the stated calculation applies to revenue confirmed by Google after those deductions.
Save relevant details and contact Creator Support if eligible
- Keep the stream date, the transaction details shown in Studio, and any YouTube notice or payment adjustment relevant to the issue.
- If your channel is eligible, contact Creator Support through the Help Center or chat in YouTube Studio and ask about the specific account-level adjustment. YouTube says creator chat is limited to eligible creators; see Get help as a YouTube Creator.
Keeping records is sensible, but YouTube’s published guidance does not prescribe a chargeback evidence packet or say that sending records will change an outcome. It also does not establish that Studio has a chargeback appeal button, that a creator can recover a reversed payment, or that the creator can identify who initiated a dispute. Avoid publicly accusing or contacting a viewer based only on a payment reversal, and do not share private transaction information.

What a creator should not assume from a payment adjustment
YouTube’s monetization policy discusses withholding, adjustments, chargebacks, or offsets to creator earnings in connection with policy violations and possible investigations. That policy language does not establish that an individual viewer’s card chargeback follows the same process. The public creator help materials explain purchase records, revenue reporting, and support access, but do not describe a creator-facing procedure for challenging a particular card-network reversal. Common mistakes to avoid
- Calling every regretted Super Chat unauthorized. Use that description only when the account holder says they did not make or authorize the purchase.
- Promising a refund for a voluntary payment. YouTube describes voluntary Super Chat payments as non-refundable.
- Treating 120 days as a bank deadline. It is YouTube’s stated window to report an unauthorized digital purchase to its support team; issuer rules are separate.
- Assuming a Studio record proves who disputed a payment. The cited Studio guidance establishes purchase-history and revenue views, not the identity or reason behind a chargeback.
- Equating every earnings adjustment with a viewer dispute. Policy-related earnings adjustments and an individual card chargeback are not shown to be the same process.
