If OBS keeps disconnecting from your YouTube 24/7 stream, start by checking the connection between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server—not by assuming OBS itself is broken. Compare OBS Stats and its log with the stream-health message in YouTube Live Control Room, then test whether your internet connection can sustain the stream’s bitrate. The exact cause depends on those diagnostics; the steps below help isolate it without treating any single setting as a guaranteed fix.
1. Capture what OBS and YouTube report during a disconnection
Record the time of each interruption and check OBS and YouTube while the problem is happening. This evidence helps distinguish a network problem from encoding or rendering overload.
Check OBS Stats and the session log
- In OBS, open View > Stats. Note the dropped-frame percentage and category, along with any rendering or encoding lag.
- After a failure, open Help > Log Files > View Current Log or Upload Current Log. Look around the failure time for connection or network messages.
OBS says dropped frames indicate that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can lead to a disconnection. If the issue is rendering or encoding lag rather than network dropped frames, focus on system load and encoder workload instead of changing network settings at random. OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide explains the distinction.
Read YouTube’s stream-health message
Open the stream in YouTube Live Control Room and inspect its stream-health status and specific error message. YouTube provides diagnostic messages with instructions, so capture the wording and compare its timestamp with the OBS log. YouTube’s live-stream metrics guide explains where to find stream metrics.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Neither a single OBS statistic nor a general “poor connection” warning identifies the exact fault by itself. Use both systems’ evidence before changing settings.
2. Check whether your upload connection can sustain the stream
Test the connection’s upload speed and stability, preferably at a time when the stream is normally affected. Download speed does not tell you how much capacity is available to send video to YouTube.

- Run an outbound speed test from the streaming computer or the same network connection it uses.
- Compare the available upload capacity with OBS’s configured video bitrate and the rest of the network’s upload use.
- Leave at least 20% upload headroom, as YouTube recommends. If other devices or users share the connection, account for their traffic too.
- If the test is unstable or there is not enough headroom, reduce the stream’s bitrate or output demands and test again.
A speed test is a snapshot, not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable for a continuous broadcast. YouTube notes that shared network use can limit the bandwidth available to an individual stream. Its streaming tips cover bandwidth and preparation; its live-stream troubleshooting guide includes connection troubleshooting.
3. Match OBS output settings to your connection and YouTube’s guidance
Choose a bitrate your outbound connection can sustain for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. YouTube’s recommended bitrate values vary with those settings, so there is no single correct bitrate for every 24/7 stream.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Check the encoder settings
- Rate control: YouTube recommends CBR (constant bitrate) for encoder streams.
- Keyframe interval: Set it to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Bitrate: Use the value appropriate to your codec, resolution, and frame rate in YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance. If your connection cannot sustain it with headroom, reduce the bitrate or lower the output resolution or frame rate.
After each adjustment, run a test and compare OBS Stats with YouTube’s stream health. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which change affects the disconnections. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for its conditional bitrate recommendations.
4. Test OBS network options carefully
OBS’s connection guide recommends leaving Bind to IP set to Default. It also documents Network Optimizations and TCP pacing (Windows only) as settings to try when troubleshooting. Interface names and availability can differ by OBS version and operating system.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Try a documented network option only after recording your current settings, and test one change at a time.
- OBS documents IPv4-only as a diagnostic test. Revert it if it does not help; it is not a universal fix.
- Dynamic Bitrate can reduce dropped frames by lowering bitrate when network conditions worsen. It may lower stream quality and is a fallback, not a cure for an unstable connection.
Do not assume a toggle will fix the problem. If a change has no clear benefit, restore the previous setting and continue diagnosing the connection. Refer to OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide for the documented options.

OBS lists security software, VPN software, bundled network software, and possible hardware issues among potential causes of connection trouble. Test one factor at a time and check whether OBS and YouTube’s reports change.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- If you use a VPN, test a stream without it if that is safe and appropriate for your setup.
- Security software can be a diagnostic factor. If a temporary test indicates it is involved, re-enable protection and limit any exception to OBS rather than leaving protections disabled.
- If the computer is connected by Ethernet, testing with a known-good cable is a reasonable low-cost check. A cable swap will not fix network congestion, a failing router, ISP instability, or a problem elsewhere on the route to YouTube.
- Check for other devices or applications uploading heavily during the broadcast.
These are possible sources to isolate, not a diagnosis of your particular setup. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide lists software and hardware factors to investigate.
6. When to contact your ISP
If OBS shows network dropped frames or connection failures, YouTube reports an ingest or stream-health problem, and your tests point to unstable or insufficient outbound capacity, contact your ISP. Provide the failure timestamps, relevant OBS log messages, speed-test results, and the exact Live Control Room error text. YouTube also recommends contacting the ISP when troubleshooting points to the connection. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide covers this escalation.
Protect a 24/7 broadcast against interruption and lost archives
Test a backup encoder
YouTube recommends preparing a backup encoder and testing the handoff. Its guidance describes stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then confirming that the player rolls over to the backup. A backup can help preserve continuity if the primary computer or connection fails, but it adds equipment and setup to maintain. See YouTube’s streaming tips and YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips.
Keep a local recording
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream that is less than 12 hours, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive limitation, not evidence that YouTube automatically disconnects a stream at the 12-hour mark. For a continuous broadcast you need to preserve, enable local recording in OBS and make sure the recording drive has enough free space. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
