Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor video changes at exact clock times—such as showing one clip at 1:00 PM and another at 2:00 PM—use the Advanced Scene Switcher OBS plugin. Create a macro for each time and pair its date-and-time condition with an action that switches to the scene containing the video. For a sequence that should advance when a clip ends, use media-playback triggers instead. These are different schedules: one follows the clock; the other follows playback.
Choose the schedule you need
- Start a specific video at a set time: Use Advanced Scene Switcher date-and-time conditions and scene-switch actions. Set up one macro for each scheduled change.
- Play the next video when the current one ends: Use media-state or media-ended automation to move to the next scene after playback finishes.
- Run a sequential video library: A community-described approach is to add files to a VLC source playlist in OBS, then use Advanced Scene Switcher to manage scene transitions around playback. Verify how the playlist and transitions behave with your installed versions.
A clock schedule does not automatically mean “play the next clip when this one finishes.” Decide which event controls each transition before building the automation.
Check compatibility and install Advanced Scene Switcher
The OBS Project Forums listing for Advanced Scene Switcher 1.36.1, last updated August 7, 2026, lists OBS Studio 31.1.1 as the minimum version and Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms. Check the current OBS resource listing before installing, since plugin versions and requirements can change.
- Confirm your OBS version. Make sure it meets the plugin’s listed minimum before installing.
- Open the OBS resource page and select “Go to download.” Use the installer or installation route suited to your OBS setup.
- Use the correct route for your platform. The project repository describes installers for Windows and macOS. For Linux users who installed OBS through Flatpak, it describes a Flatpak installation route. Follow the current project repository instructions rather than copying installation commands from older forum posts.
- Restart OBS if the installation process requires it, then check that Advanced Scene Switcher is available in OBS before configuring macros.
Prepare scenes for each scheduled video
Organize the show before adding the schedule. Create a scene for each video or scheduled segment that needs a distinct change. Add the appropriate media source to each scene, and give scenes and sources clear names so the macro actions are easy to identify.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Decide what should appear before the first scheduled change and what should appear between videos.
- For a “coming up next” segment, create a scene for that video or segment and decide which scene should follow it.
- For an ended-clip workflow, decide what happens if a video ends early, fails to play, or reaches the end of the playlist.
- Check that each video’s audio and visual presentation work in the scene where it will be played.
Schedule changes at specific clock times
Advanced Scene Switcher’s listing identifies date-and-time conditions and scene-switch actions as available building blocks. Configure a macro for each event, using the intended time condition and the scene-switch action for the scene that contains the video. The listing establishes these capabilities, but does not document every recurring schedule, timezone, or recovery scenario in a complete walkthrough.
- Open Advanced Scene Switcher in OBS and create a macro for the first scheduled change.
- Add a date-and-time condition and set the date or time criteria for the event. Use the time basis you intend to rely on, and verify it by testing against the system’s actual clock.
- Add a scene-switch action and choose the scene for the video that should begin at that time.
- Create a separate macro for each additional scheduled change, matching each time condition to its intended scene.
- Test each boundary and confirm which scene becomes active. Also confirm the behavior when OBS starts late, a scheduled time is missed, or another macro could switch scenes at the same time.
If the schedule is meant to repeat daily, verify the recurring behavior in your specific plugin version; do not assume a one-time date-and-time configuration automatically handles every daily or timezone edge case.

Advance when a video ends
When the next scene should begin only after the current clip finishes, use a media-playback condition or end-of-media trigger rather than relying solely on a clock time. A community-described OBS workflow uses a VLC source with files in a playlist, while Advanced Scene Switcher reacts to playback state or a clip ending and moves to the next scene. Treat this as a practical community approach, not a guaranteed configuration for every OBS and plugin version.
- Add a VLC source to the scene used for the sequence and configure its playlist with the video files in the intended order.
- Set up the relevant media-state or media-ended condition in Advanced Scene Switcher.
- Pair that condition with the scene action that should occur when playback reaches the chosen state or a clip ends.
- Define what should happen after the final clip: loop the playlist, return to a holding scene, or follow another planned path.
- Test playback, transitions, looping, and failure behavior with the exact files and versions you plan to use.
Test the schedule before using it live
Test the complete arrangement with a private stream or another setup that is safe to interrupt. A community responder specifically advises testing the full looping arrangement before relying on it.

Common problems and what to check
- The plugin is missing in OBS: Check that your OBS version meets the listed minimum and that you used the installation route appropriate to your OBS package, especially on Linux with Flatpak.
- A time-based switch happens at the wrong time: Recheck the macro’s date-and-time condition and the computer’s clock. Test the exact timing behavior in your setup, especially for recurring schedules.
- The scene switches but the video does not play as expected: Check the source and scene configuration, then test media behavior independently before relying on the automation.
- The next clip does not start after the current one: Confirm that the trigger is based on the media state or clip ending, and that its action targets the intended next scene.
- The sequence behaves incorrectly at the end: Set and test an explicit end-of-playlist behavior, such as looping or returning to a holding scene.
- Two scheduled changes conflict: Review macros that can act at the same time and test which action takes effect in your setup.
