Install Advanced Scene Switcher compatibly
The plugin author describes it as a way to automate tasks using macros. Its conditions include timer, streaming, source, and scene-related states. The OBS resource lists version 1.36.1, updated August 7, 2026, and minimum OBS Studio 31.1.1. Compatibility can change, so check the current resource page and release notes against your installed OBS version before installing.
- Confirm your OBS Studio version meets the plugin’s currently listed minimum.
- Install Advanced Scene Switcher using the plugin resource’s current instructions, then restart OBS if its installer or release notes call for it.
- Open the plugin’s interface in OBS and build a macro by selecting a condition and its resulting action. The exact controls can change between releases; follow the installed version’s labels and documentation.
- Test each macro while monitoring the preview and output. Verify it does not interrupt the intended video or switch scenes unexpectedly before relying on it during a live broadcast.
Do not treat a timer or streaming-state condition as a recovery guarantee. A macro can automate configured OBS actions, but the cited plugin information does not establish that it restarts OBS after a crash or repairs a failed internet connection.

Set up a repeating video or playlist in OBS
Loop one video
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene that will be on air.
- Choose the media file and enable the source’s loop option.
- Preview playback and confirm that it returns to the beginning as expected.
Loop a playlist
- Install VLC separately, matching its architecture to OBS. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add a VLC Video source to the relevant scene.
- Add the video files to its playlist and choose ordered or shuffled playback, as appropriate.
- Enable playlist looping, then preview the transitions and confirm the files play in the intended order or shuffle behavior.
These steps configure playback inside OBS; they do not start the computer, reconnect a failed encoder, or ensure a scheduled YouTube broadcast goes live without the required encoder and control-room actions.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live and understand scheduling
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow uses a YouTube Live server URL and stream key. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the broadcast, enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder, and start the encoder. For scheduled streams, YouTube’s instructions direct creators to wait for the preview and click Go live in Live Control Room.

Scheduling a broadcast in Studio is not the same as scheduling OBS to launch. The documented workflow does not establish unattended OBS startup, automatic recovery after a computer, power, or network failure, or a way to bypass the Go live step. Check YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the exact Studio controls and requirements.
Plan for archives, rights, and continuous operation
Archive duration
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a 24/7 broadcast, do not assume YouTube will produce one complete archive of the entire longer stream; its documented under-12-hour rule does not promise an outcome for longer broadcasts. Copyright and reused content
Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. A playlist that runs continuously does not make copyrighted material permissible, and permission to use a track or clip should cover the way you plan to broadcast it. Also consider YouTube’s monetization rules: permission to use material does not by itself establish that a channel meets reused-content requirements. Review YouTube’s current policies and use the copyright safety checklist before putting a long playlist on air.
What 24/7 operation requires
A local OBS workflow depends on the computer, OBS, the media files, and the internet connection remaining available. The cited plugin and YouTube documentation describe controls and workflows, not comparative uptime or long-duration stress tests. Test your own scenes, transitions, and reconnection behavior, and decide how you will detect and respond to a stopped stream. Do not infer guaranteed unattended operation from a successful short test.
