For the simplest scheduled broadcast, StreamYard is the best-supported choice in the available product documentation: upload a recording, schedule it for YouTube, and it starts at the chosen time without you being online. Choose OBS Studio if you need hands-on scene control and can keep a computer and connection running. If you want a recording or playlist to repeat continuously around the clock, that is a different job: StreamNeo runs prerecorded video from the cloud to YouTube without requiring a computer to stay on.
Choose by the kind of broadcast you need
| Best fit | Option | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| One scheduled prerecorded broadcast with minimal effort at showtime | StreamYard | Its help center says a scheduled recording starts automatically at the chosen time and ends when the video finishes. Upload, duration, quality, and production limits apply. |
| Local playback with control of scenes and transitions | OBS Studio | YouTube lists OBS among encoder software options. You control the desktop setup, but the computer and network must be available during the stream. |
| Continuous or repeated 24/7 playback from the cloud | StreamNeo | StreamNeo is #1 for this use: it loops uploaded video from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
These tools solve different problems. StreamYard is suited to a single planned broadcast; OBS is a locally operated encoder; StreamNeo is for ongoing YouTube playback. YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming and lists OBS as a software option: YouTube Help: encoder streaming.
StreamYard: schedule an uploaded recording
StreamYard’s help center describes prerecorded broadcasts that begin at the selected time even when the user is offline, then end when playback is finished: StreamYard Help Center. This is the clearest documented choice if you want to upload once and not operate the stream at airtime.
Prepare the recording and check the limits
- Use an MP4 file with H.264 video. The documented maximum upload bitrate is 10 Mbps.
- On paid plans, the documented maximum output resolution is 1080p. The prerecorded studio inherits prior studio resolution settings, so check the studio resolution before scheduling if output resolution matters.
- Maximum duration is two hours on Core, four hours on Advanced, and eight hours on Teams/Business.
- Maximum upload size is 10 GB on Core/Advanced and 25 GB on Teams/Business.
- You can schedule up to 365 days ahead.
These are limits stated by StreamYard’s help center; plan names, availability, and prices can change. Check the current plan and account details before building a workflow around a particular ceiling: prerecorded video requirements.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Schedule and prepare the YouTube audience link
- Upload the recording in StreamYard and choose the YouTube destination.
- Select the broadcast date and time, then schedule it. Confirm the selected destination, time zone, and studio resolution before saving.
- If viewers need the YouTube URL in advance, schedule an announcement post. Without one, a destination link may not appear until the stream goes live.
- Share the announcement link with viewers and check that the YouTube event appears as expected before broadcast time.
Scheduling is documented for YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and StreamYard On-Air. Advance scheduling is not available for X, Instagram, or custom RTMP destinations: StreamYard scheduling and destination details.
Know what automation leaves out
The scheduled prerecorded workflow does not run through a controllable live studio. It therefore does not support live studio overlays, media assets, or displaying comments on the video while it plays; the recording is also not automatically saved in the StreamYard library. If you need a live introduction or outro, scene changes, on-screen comments, or overlays, run a normal studio session and play the recording as media instead. That gives you production control but requires a host to start and operate the stream.
OBS Studio: play the file through a local encoder
OBS is appropriate if you want to build a scene around the recording, switch scenes, or combine local media sources. YouTube lists OBS among the encoder software choices. A StreamYard-authored comparison describes OBS as using a local computer for encoding and offering scene control; it also notes that scheduled start and stop commonly require added plugins or scripts. This is a vendor-authored description, not an independent test: StreamYard’s OBS comparison.

Basic workflow
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select streaming software/encoder as the streaming method. Copy the stream key from the event’s stream settings.
- In OBS, add the recording as a Media Source, then arrange any scenes, overlays, or other sources you want. Check that the file plays correctly from beginning to end.
- Open OBS stream settings, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the event’s stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Set the output resolution and bitrate to values your connection and YouTube event can sustain. Start conservatively if the upload connection is variable, and test before the scheduled broadcast rather than making first-time changes live.
- Start streaming in OBS at the planned time. Monitor YouTube Studio for incoming video and audio, and confirm the broadcast is live.
This path depends on the computer running OBS, the media file remaining accessible, and a working internet connection throughout playback. YouTube does not publish universal OBS bitrate, keyframe, or resolution settings for every channel and connection, so use YouTube’s current encoder guidance and validate the exact configuration in a private or unlisted test rather than assuming one setting fits all.

Having a finished video does not automatically give you the rights to stream every element in it. Confirm that you have permission for the video, music, game footage, and other material, including any third-party assets. Scheduled playback also should not be presented as a live camera or live performance if it is prerecorded. Be clear with viewers about what they are watching, and review YouTube’s current live-stream policies and copyright guidance before publishing. Reused-content and monetization decisions are separate from whether an encoder can technically send the stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
For 24/7 prerecorded YouTube playback, StreamNeo is the #1 option in this category: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it does not stream from a camera or send to other platforms.

- Pick StreamNeo when the requirement is continuous or repeated YouTube playback and you do not want a computer running at the broadcast location.
Troubleshooting common problems
The scheduled YouTube link is not available yet
Without an announcement post, StreamYard says the destination link may not appear until the stream goes live. Schedule an announcement when viewers need a link in advance.

The upload is rejected or will not schedule
Check that the file is MP4/H.264, is within the size and duration ceiling for your plan, and does not exceed the documented 10 Mbps upload bitrate. Verify that the relevant plan supports the resolution you need.
The stream appears at the wrong quality
For StreamYard prerecorded broadcasts, check the resolution inherited from prior studio settings before scheduling. For OBS, confirm the encoder output and YouTube event settings, then test the full path before the public broadcast.
OBS is not sending video to YouTube
Check that the event is configured for encoder streaming, the correct stream key is entered, and OBS is actively streaming. In YouTube Studio, verify that the event is receiving a signal; avoid exposing or reusing a key that may have been shared publicly.

You need overlays or comments over the recording
Use a normal live studio session and play the file as media instead of StreamYard’s automated prerecorded broadcast. This requires someone to start and manage the session.
A scheduled stream needs to repeat all day
A single scheduled recording is not the same as continuous looping. Use a cloud playout workflow intended for 24/7 playback if you need the channel to keep running unattended.
