Scheduling a YouTube live stream creates the event; it does not transmit or loop your video. To run prerecorded videos nonstop, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then send it a continuous feed from a local encoder or a cloud service. You’ll need the event’s stream URL and key, and you should start the feed early enough to check the preview before the event begins.
Before you schedule: enable live streaming
Check that live streaming is available on your channel before setting an event time. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of your planned start. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Schedule the YouTube live event
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Choose Manage, then schedule a stream.
- Reuse settings from a previous stream or enter new event details, including its title, description, visibility, and scheduled start time.
- Save the event. YouTube notes that scheduling lets you promote the stream; it does not start a video feed on its own.

Choose how to send the prerecorded video
You need an encoder or hosted streaming service to transmit the video to the event. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, and its verified encoder information lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for continuous prerecorded-video streaming.

Run an encoder on your own computer
A local encoder can send the feed, but the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection need to remain available for the stream. This method gives you direct control of the encoding setup; it also means a local power, network, or computer interruption can stop the outgoing feed. Hardware encoding is an option, not a requirement: YouTube documents software encoders too.
Use a hosted service
A hosted service sends the feed from its infrastructure rather than relying on a computer at home. YouTube’s encoder information names Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded streams. The official setup guidance cited here does not compare service prices, reliability, or plan limits, so check each provider’s current terms before choosing one.

Connect the encoder to the scheduled event
- Open the scheduled stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and key.
- Enter both in your encoder or hosted service. The URL identifies where the feed goes; the key authorizes YouTube to accept it. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Configure the encoder or service to play the intended video or playlist continuously. Scheduling alone does not provide looping or send a file.
- Start the encoder before the event’s scheduled time. YouTube recommends starting at least 15 minutes early so you can confirm the incoming feed and inspect stream quality.
- Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, verify picture and sound, then select Go live when appropriate for the event.

Keep the stream healthy and plan for the archive
While live, continuously monitor audio and video quality, as YouTube advises in its live-streaming tips. A scheduled start is not proof that the feed is healthy: check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and keep an eye on the actual output during the broadcast.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single stream longer than 12 hours will have a complete archive. If you need a full recording of a longer nonstop broadcast, plan a separate recording or archive workflow rather than relying on that automatic archive rule.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only stream video and audio you have the right to use in a live broadcast. A prerecorded video being uploaded or looped does not itself establish permission to retransmit its music, gameplay, or other material. Review YouTube’s current live-stream rules and any applicable rights before scheduling, and avoid assuming that credit, a disclaimer, or a short excerpt grants permission. Also make sure the stream’s title, description, and actual content accurately represent what viewers will see.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
Live streaming is unavailable
Confirm that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
The scheduled event starts but shows no video
Scheduling does not transmit the file. Start the encoder or hosted service, confirm that it is configured with the correct event URL and key, and check whether the Live Control Room preview receives a feed.

YouTube does not accept the encoder feed
Recheck the stream URL and key for the specific scheduled event. If the key may have been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new credential.
The preview appears late or the event is nearly due
Start the encoder earlier next time; YouTube recommends at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Use that lead time to confirm the preview and stream quality before telling viewers the event is ready.
The video is live but audio or picture fails
Inspect the incoming preview and continue monitoring the stream during the event. Check the source video and the encoder or service’s playback and output configuration; a scheduled event cannot correct a problem in the feed it receives.
The archive is incomplete or missing after a long broadcast
Automatic archiving guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. For a longer continuous stream, make separate archive arrangements and do not depend on a complete YouTube archive.
