Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For most creators who want to loop prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a computer, OBS Studio is the best starting point. It is a verified, no-charge encoder option, and its built-in Media Source can loop one file. For a playlist, OBS’s VLC Video source can play items in order and repeat them. If you need a stream to keep running without a computer left on at home, a cloud service is a better fit.
Which software should you choose?
| Option | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Running one file or a playlist from a computer you control | YouTube lists OBS among verified software encoders, and OBS is open-source and available at no charge. Use Media Source for one file or VLC Video for a playlist. The computer and internet connection must remain available while you stream. YouTube encoder setup; OBS Media Sources. |
| StreamNeo | Keeping uploaded videos live continuously without leaving a computer on | It loops uploaded video from the cloud to YouTube. One flat price per slot covers any upload quality up to 4K 60fps; the first day is free with no card. StreamNeo. |
| Gyre | Considering a cloud-hosted option listed in YouTube’s encoder directory | YouTube describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams. The cited information does not establish a like-for-like price comparison or current plan details. YouTube encoder setup. |
| AJA HELO Plus | Scheduled prerecorded playback to YouTube Live without a computer | YouTube describes it as supporting scheduled prerecorded media. It is a dedicated hardware route rather than desktop software; the cited information does not establish its price. YouTube encoder setup. |
There is no established like-for-like cost comparison across these approaches, so the best choice depends on whether you value local control, cloud operation, or dedicated hardware.
Set up a loop in OBS Studio
Before you start
- Enable live streaming for your YouTube channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the planned start time.
- Prepare the video file or playlist you have rights to stream, including its audio.
- For a playlist, install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC so the VLC source can work.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast on your channel.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube if available in the service list and connect your account, or select the custom server option and enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe these connection details and workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Loop one video file
- In the OBS scene where the video should appear, click + under Sources and add Media Source.
- Choose the local media file.
- Enable Loop in the source properties if you want playback to restart when it reaches the end, then confirm the source and check it in the preview.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation covers the source’s playback options: OBS Media Sources.
Loop a playlist
- Click + under Sources and add VLC Video Source.
- Add the video files to the source’s playlist in the order you want them played.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled to repeat the list in order. Shuffle Playlist is a separate setting and defaults off; turn it on only if you want randomized playback.
- Confirm the source and preview the sequence to make sure the files load and the order is correct.
The VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed, and OBS notes the architecture should match: 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. See OBS Media Sources.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start and monitor the broadcast
- In OBS, start streaming. Check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the encoder connection and stream preview.
- For a scheduled stream, follow the Live Control Room step to start the broadcast after the encoder connects; connecting OBS alone may not put the scheduled event live.
- Keep an eye on both OBS and the Live Control Room during startup so you can catch a missing source, playback error, or connection issue.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is continuous YouTube playback without a home computer or connection staying on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. The process is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can be off; the stream is any quality you uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.

Copyright, monetization, and archive limits
Confirm video and audio rights
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube says that if you have licensed third-party content, its owner should add your channel to the Content ID allowlist; without that, the stream may still be interrupted. Confirm the rights to both the video and audio before going live. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

A loop is not a monetization guarantee
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Monetized content is expected to be original and authentic; repetitive, mass-produced, generic, or low-value content can be ineligible. A stream being technically live, or looping successfully, does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. Review YouTube channel monetization policies.
Plan around the archive window
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a recording matters, make a local recording rather than relying only on YouTube’s archive. YouTube archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not accept the encoder connection | Live streaming is not enabled yet, or the stream URL/key is incorrect | Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Confirm the URL and key belong to the intended event, then re-enter them in OBS. If you suspect the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS. |
| The VLC playlist source is missing or does not play files | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS | Install VLC; pair 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Reopen OBS and check the playlist entries. |
| The video plays once and stops | The repeat option is not enabled | For one file, enable Loop in Media Source properties. For a playlist, enable Loop Playlist in VLC Video source properties. |
| A scheduled event is connected but not live | The encoder connection was made, but the Live Control Room start step is incomplete | Return to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and complete the broadcast start step for the scheduled stream. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced | A third-party content match or rights issue may be involved | Review YouTube’s copyright notice, verify permissions for video and audio, and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting if you hold a license. |
| A long stream is missing from the archive | It ran longer than YouTube’s stated archive threshold | Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Record locally if an archive is important. |
Costs and operational trade-offs
OBS is available at no charge, but a local setup still requires a computer and internet connection to remain available throughout the broadcast. Cloud services shift playback away from the home computer, while dedicated hardware avoids a computer but requires a device. The cited YouTube and OBS documentation does not provide a comparable total-cost figure for Gyre or AJA HELO Plus, so compare current plans and hardware costs directly before choosing.
