A common RTMP-style command is shown below, but -c copy works only when the clips’ streams are compatible; it does not fix mismatched media.
1. Create the concat playlist
Make a plain-text file such as playlist.txt in the directory from which you will run FFmpeg. Put one clip on each file line, in playback order:
file 'clip1.mp4'
file 'clip2.mp4'
file 'clip3.mp4'
For automatic recognition of the script format, you can put ffconcat version 1.0 on the first line. It must be at the very beginning of the file, with no leading spaces or byte-order mark. Quote or escape paths containing spaces or special characters according to FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation. Relative paths using simple characters are easiest to handle.
When to use -safe 0
The concat demuxer defaults to safe-path checking and rejects some paths it considers unsafe. The command below uses -safe 0 to allow paths outside that restricted set. Use it only when you control the playlist and trust every path in it; do not use an untrusted playlist.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Send the looping playlist to YouTube over RTMP
Replace the placeholder with the RTMP ingest URL and stream key shown for your broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c copy -f flv 'rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/YOUR-STREAM-KEY'
This is a representative command pattern, not a guarantee that any particular files will work unchanged. FFmpeg’s input and output options are documented in its command-line reference.

What the options do
-rereads file input at its native frame rate, equivalent to-readrate 1, so prerecorded media is paced in real time rather than sent as fast as possible. FFmpeg cautions against applying low read rates to inputs that are already live captures or network streams, because that can cause packet loss.-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely; FFmpeg defines-1as infinite looping.-f concatselects the concat demuxer for the playlist input.-safe 0disables the demuxer’s safe-path restriction. It is convenient for controlled local paths, but should not be used with untrusted list contents.-i playlist.txtsupplies the playlist file as the input.-c copycopies the encoded streams without re-encoding. It does not change codecs, dimensions, frame rates, or stream layouts to make files match.-f flvselects FLV output for this RTMP-style example. Use the ingest URL and key supplied by YouTube for the protocol selected in your live setup.
3. Check whether stream copy is suitable
The concat demuxer presents files in sequence and adjusts timestamps so each follows the previous one. FFmpeg requires the files to have the same streams, including matching codecs and time bases. A playlist that mixes different stream layouts or incompatible encoding properties may fail or produce unwanted transitions when sent with -c copy.
Check the clips’ stream details before starting a long broadcast. If they are not compatible, prepare files with a consistent stream layout or use FFmpeg’s concat filter and re-encode to a common output. The FFmpeg Project’s FAQ distinguishes the options: “FFmpeg has a concat demuxer which you can use when you want to avoid a re-encode and your format doesn’t support file level concatenation.” It identifies the concat filter as the route when re-encoding is needed.

Mind durations and timestamps
The demuxer uses each file’s duration to calculate the next file’s timestamps. If a file’s stored duration is inaccurate, the transition can contain artifacts; the concat script’s duration directive can override a duration when you know the correct value. Timestamp adjustment is global, and FFmpeg notes that gaps can result when the streams in a file do not have exactly the same length. A duration override is not a substitute for compatible streams.
4. Match the output protocol to YouTube’s ingest settings
The example command sends FLV to an RTMP-style endpoint. Do not add HLS-specific segment settings to it. YouTube’s HLS requirements apply when you configure HLS ingestion: the YouTube HLS setup guidance specifies 1–4 second segments, TS segments, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no byte-range support. YouTube also notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments rather than a continuous stream. Confirm the protocol selected in Live Control Room before applying protocol-specific requirements.

5. Troubleshoot common failures
- FFmpeg rejects a playlist path: Check the quoting and escaping, make paths relative and simple where practical, or use
-safe 0only for a list and files you trust. - The command starts but a clip fails at a transition: The files may not meet the concat demuxer’s same-stream requirements. Compare their codecs, time bases, and stream layouts; normalize them or use the concat filter with re-encoding if needed.
- There is a gap or artifact between clips: Check whether stored durations are accurate and whether the streams within each file have matching lengths. Where appropriate, set an accurate
durationdirective in the concat script. - The stream does not reach YouTube: Verify that the ingest URL and stream key match the active YouTube Live setup and that the selected output protocol matches that setup. Do not publish or share the stream key.
- FFmpeg sends the file too quickly: For prerecorded file input, include
-reto pace reading at the source frame rate.
6. Check channel rights and content suitability
Before looping clips publicly, make sure you have the rights needed to stream them and that the planned broadcast complies with YouTube’s applicable live-stream and channel policies. A technically valid concat playlist does not establish permission to use its contents or guarantee that a channel will qualify for monetization. Review the rights and policy implications of every clip before going live.
7. Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube loop without keeping FFmpeg, a computer, or a home connection running, StreamNeo hosts uploaded videos in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than streaming from a camera.
