You can schedule a YouTube Live event and send it a prerecorded video as a live feed, with AWS Elemental MediaLive as a possible cloud encoder. MediaLive documents MP4 as a video-on-demand input and RTMP or RTMPS as output types, but that does not establish a ready-made, verified MediaLive-to-YouTube recipe. You must configure and test the complete ingest path for your account and workflow.
Uploading the file to Amazon S3 alone does not create a livestream. YouTube schedules and hosts the event; an encoder must play or process the recording and transmit it to YouTube’s ingest endpoint.
How the AWS-to-YouTube workflow fits together
- Schedule the event in YouTube Studio. Use Live Control Room to create the upcoming livestream and its watch page. YouTube’s instructions are at Schedule a livestream.
- Provide the recording to an encoder. In an AWS design, MediaLive documentation identifies MP4 as a VOD input. The recording still needs to be played or processed as a continuous live feed; simply storing it is not enough. See AWS MediaLive file inputs.
- Configure a compatible output to YouTube. MediaLive supports RTMP and RTMPS output types, with H.264 video and AAC audio listed for those types. YouTube’s encoder guidance says to use the server URL and stream key provided in Live Control Room. Confirm the specific protocol, endpoint, output settings, and playback scheduling behavior for your configuration before relying on it. See MediaLive supported output types and MediaLive output codecs.
- Test, then start the event. Start the feed early enough to inspect YouTube’s preview, confirm the event is accessible, and check audio and video before starting the scheduled broadcast. Monitor the feed during the event. YouTube’s guidance is in Set up your encoder for live streaming and Live streaming tips.
What AWS does—and what it does not do
MediaLive can process video inputs and produce supported live outputs, making it a plausible component in a YouTube workflow. But AWS’s documented support for MP4 VOD input and RTMP/RTMPS output is not, by itself, a complete configuration guide for scheduled playback into a particular YouTube event. Validate the end-to-end path in a private or unlisted test event.
Amazon S3 is storage, not a YouTube broadcast. AWS identifies MP4 as VOD input and says it does not recommend S3 as a source for a live stream. An AWS design that outputs HLS through S3 and CloudFront serves a different purpose: viewer delivery. It does not automatically send a live feed to YouTube. See MediaLive file inputs and MediaLive output types.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Eligibility, credentials, and content rights
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Its guidance also sets an age minimum and requires compliance with Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. See YouTube live-streaming eligibility.
- Protect the stream key. Copy the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder configuration. Treat the key like a password; regenerate it if it is exposed. See YouTube stream settings.
- Clear every right in the recording. A video being prerecorded does not remove licensing obligations. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights, and to meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Read the YouTube livestream terms.
- Know the archive limit. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. Do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived the same way; see YouTube’s livestream instructions.
Reliability and monitoring
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder ahead of time, checking the preview, and verifying that the event is accessible. Its streaming tips advise leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the bitrate requirement for locally originating streams. For an AWS-originated feed, that local upload recommendation is not a complete measure of the cloud path: monitor the relevant AWS input and output legs as well as YouTube’s ingest status.
Plan recovery behavior rather than assuming a cloud encoder cannot fail. Confirm how the MediaLive channel, input, output, and playback source behave if a component disconnects or the source ends; test the expected restart procedure and ensure someone can monitor the event. YouTube’s streaming tips cover its side of setup and monitoring.

How AWS compares with other ways to send prerecorded video live
| Option | What it does | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, with looping and playlists. | Always-on cloud streaming, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a free first day. It is YouTube-only. |
| YouTube Studio plus compatible encoder software | Schedules the event; an encoder on a computer sends the prerecorded feed. | Setup simplicity, keeping the computer running, local bandwidth, automation, and monitoring. |
| AWS Elemental MediaLive | Cloud media processing; AWS documents MP4 VOD input and RTMP/RTMPS output types. | AWS configuration effort, endpoint/protocol compatibility, playback scheduling, resilience, monitoring, and region-specific cost. |
| AJA HELO Plus | Hardware encoder. YouTube’s verified encoder directory describes its PlayToStream feature for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live. | Upfront device cost, standalone operation, storage and network needs, and fit with your event workflow. |
| Gyre | YouTube lists it as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming. | Check current features, scheduling and control, rights requirements, reliability, and vendor pricing before choosing it. |
For StreamNeo details, see StreamNeo. AWS MediaLive charges depend on resource states, input and output characteristics, enabled features, and Region; calculate from your planned configuration rather than treating an unrelated example as your likely bill. See AWS Elemental MediaLive pricing. Current comparable prices for the other options are not established here.
Costs and practical trade-offs
MediaLive is a flexible building block, but using it means owning the configuration, scheduling behavior, monitoring, and recovery plan. Estimate costs for the actual Region, duration, input, output, and resilience design. A short test and a long-running channel may have materially different resource use, so model both before committing.

If your goal is one scheduled broadcast, compare the setup effort with a local encoder or a hardware encoder. For continuous looping, compare the ongoing operational work as well as the service or infrastructure charge. Do not assume that S3 storage, by itself, covers the encoding and live delivery needed for YouTube.

For prerecorded YouTube streaming without maintaining your own AWS pipeline, StreamNeo’s workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so no home computer or connection has to stay on. It plays uploads rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
