To make a 24/7 YouTube reggae radio channel, clear the rights for every recording you plan to play, enable live streaming on your verified YouTube channel, then send a continuous audio-and-video broadcast through an encoder. Test it as an unlisted stream before launch and plan how you will monitor and recover it. You can run the encoder on a computer you keep online, use hosted infrastructure, or—if your show is made from uploaded recordings—use a cloud service such as StreamNeo.
1. Make sure the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube for Artists advises enabling live streaming at least 24 hours before your first planned broadcast, so do not leave activation until launch day. Once access is ready, create an unlisted test stream and check it before announcing a public schedule.
2. Clear the music before you build the playlist
Owning a CD, download, or subscription that lets you listen to a recording does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it continuously on YouTube. Before scheduling a track, document who controls the relevant rights, which uses and territories your agreement covers, and whether it explicitly permits a continuous YouTube livestream. Requirements can vary with the repertoire, rights holders, and territories where the stream is available; confirm your particular arrangement with the relevant rights holders rather than assuming one general permission covers every track.
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. If a match is detected, YouTube may warn you, replace the picture with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption: ask the relevant owner or distributor to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist where applicable, and coordinate with them before going live. YouTube for Artists likewise recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. Platform guidance is not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific licensing advice.

- Keep a track-by-track record of the rights holder, permission, covered territories, permitted livestream use, and any allowlisting confirmation.
- Do not assume that a track is cleared because another channel has played it, because you have a personal copy, or because a listening subscription includes it.
- If a rights holder cannot confirm the intended livestream use, leave the recording out until the rights are clear.
3. Choose how the continuous broadcast will run
An encoder turns your audio and visual material into a live video stream for YouTube. YouTube describes encoder streaming as offering more customization and control than streaming from a mobile device or webcam. For a radio-style channel, decide what viewers will see—a still image, a designed visual loop, or other visuals—and make sure any visual material is also yours to use. Keep displayed track and artist information accurate and consistent with your metadata and permissions.
Run the encoder on a local computer
This gives you control of the machine, but it has to remain available for the broadcast. Plan for power and network interruptions, operating-system restarts, encoder failures, and who will notice and fix a problem. A dedicated computer or mini PC is an option, not a YouTube requirement; the cited platform guidance does not prescribe a particular hardware model or minimum specification.

Use hosted infrastructure
A hosted encoder keeps the broadcast separate from your home computer, but introduces hosting costs and remote administration. Compare options by recurring cost, monitoring and recovery arrangements, network capacity, and the technical work you are prepared to handle. There is no basis here to claim that a local or hosted setup is categorically more reliable.
4. Configure the encoder for YouTube
- Create the live stream in YouTube’s live control room. Choose the stream’s visibility for your initial test, then copy the stream key and server details shown for that stream into your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots, and replace it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Choose the video and frame rate your source can sustain. Set the encoder’s output to match the visual material you intend to send. YouTube’s encoder guidance gives recommended settings by resolution and frame rate; use the recommendation shown in YouTube’s current guidance for your selected output rather than guessing at a bitrate or keyframe interval. The source material, available upload bandwidth, and encoder all affect what is practical.
- Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Select the server address and connection details provided by YouTube, not a value copied from an unrelated setup.
- Build a repeatable audio-and-video program. Arrange the recordings and visuals in your encoder or playback system so the program can continue through the intended schedule. Check the transition between tracks, gaps, fades, and any visual changes. Do not assume a playlist will restart or recover after a failure unless you have tested that behavior.
- Start an unlisted test and inspect it from the viewer side. Confirm the sound is present and clean, the picture moves as intended, displayed metadata is correct, and YouTube reports healthy stream status. Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt cuts, and unintended gaps; inspect transitions as well as the first few seconds.
- After the test, start the public stream and monitor it. Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and keep a way to detect a dropped connection or encoder failure. An unlisted test helps catch setup problems, but it does not establish that a 24/7 service will remain available without monitoring.
5. Plan for interruptions, not just launch
A continuous schedule adds operational work beyond starting an encoder. Decide who checks the broadcast, how they will learn that it has stopped, who can restart it, and what happens during a home power or internet outage if the encoder is local. For hosted infrastructure, decide how remote access, alerts, and restarts will be handled. Test your recovery plan instead of relying on an assumption that a dropped stream will restart by itself. YouTube’s encoder settings are technical guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted availability.

6. Set realistic audience and monetization expectations
YouTube for Artists reported that “over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025 alone.” That is YouTube-wide context for that quarter—not a reggae audience share, a forecast for a new channel, or a promise of listeners. YouTube describes ads, Supers, and shopping features for live streams, but their availability depends on current channel eligibility and feature availability. Permission to broadcast music should not be treated as a guarantee of monetization eligibility or earnings.
