For a typical stereo music livestream, start with AAC audio at 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. YouTube also lists MP3 as supported for RTMP/RTMPS. For 5.1 surround, use AAC at 384 kbps and 48 kHz; RTMP/RTMPS supports 5.1 only with AAC. These are audio settings—the video bitrate must be chosen separately for your video resolution, frame rate, codec, and upload connection.
Recommended audio settings by stream type
| Use case | Audio codec | Bitrate | Sample rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical stereo music over RTMP/RTMPS | AAC or MP3 | 128 kbps | 44.1 kHz |
| Stereo music over HLS | AAC, AC3, or EAC3 | 128 kbps | 44.1 kHz |
| 5.1 surround over RTMP/RTMPS | AAC | 384 kbps | 48 kHz |
| 5.1 surround over HLS | AAC, AC3, or EAC3 | 384 kbps | 48 kHz |
YouTube lists these as recommended advanced audio settings for live ingestion. The 128 kbps figure is an encoder recommendation, not a guarantee of identical perceived sound across different source recordings, encoders, or playback devices. For ordinary music, stereo is the simplest target. [YouTube encoder settings] [YouTube HLS ingestion guidance]
Set up the encoder for a continuous stream
Use an appropriate video profile
Audio bitrate does not set the video bitrate. YouTube’s video recommendation depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. Choose a supported profile that your connection can sustain. A music stream with a static or minimally animated visual may not need the same high-motion profile as fast-moving gameplay, but the video settings still need to fit the output you intend to send. [YouTube encoder settings]
Use RTMP/RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval
YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Select the audio settings for your stream type from the table above, and configure video bitrate separately. [YouTube encoder settings]

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep upload bandwidth in reserve
Your available upload bandwidth must support the total outgoing stream bitrate, including audio and video. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom, and warns that network disruptions can break a stream. If the connection cannot reliably sustain the selected video profile, reduce the video bitrate or resolution rather than exhausting the available upload capacity. Test before you rely on the stream
- Match the planned setup. Test with the same kind of audio and video you intend to use, including the intended encoder settings and visual movement. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” [YouTube encoder settings]
- Check the stream health and playback. Monitor stream health and listen for audio quality problems; also check that video is arriving as expected. A test using a different, lighter source may not reveal problems that appear with the real stream.
- Plan for local power interruptions if needed. A UPS for the streaming computer and router can help with brief local power interruptions. It is an optional continuity measure, not a YouTube requirement, and it cannot prevent internet outages. [YouTube streaming tips]
Clear music rights before going live
Correct encoder settings do not establish permission to broadcast music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies copyrighted material, a placeholder may replace the stream and you may receive a warning; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. If you have a license, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist: a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. If you archive the livestream, Content ID claims are made after the stream ends. [YouTube copyright and live streams]

YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that it has the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Creator Music’s FAQ says its service does not support licensing for live content, so do not assume a Creator Music license for a video also authorizes a live broadcast. Keep the stream running from your own encoder
With a software or standalone hardware encoder, configure the audio and video settings above, send the stream to YouTube using its stream key, and keep the encoder and a reliable internet connection operating. YouTube describes both software and standalone hardware encoders. AWS Elemental MediaLive is listed as a broadcast-grade verified encoder, but that does not mean a basic music stream requires paid managed encoding. [YouTube live encoder options]
