Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokémon Pokopia led the most-played results, while respondents reported mixed views on storage, Game-Key Cards and how they use the console. These are answers from Nintendo Life readers—not estimates for all Switch 2 owners or gamers.
How to read the results
Nintendo Life published the results on October 3, 2026, after asking readers in August to share their views on gaming habits, Switch 2 and its software, game purchases, and Nintendo Life content. The survey had 64 questions. Questions were anonymous and optional, and most received between 4,000 and 12,000 unique responses. The article does not provide a full dataset, weighting or recruitment details, so the percentages describe participating readers rather than a representative gaming population. Nintendo Life’s results feature reports the findings; its August survey invitation introduced the project as a look at Switch 2 after more than a year on the market.
Who answered, and how they play
Just over 45% of respondents were in the US, around 21% in the UK and roughly a third elsewhere. Nearly 39% had at least one child living at home. Just over 5% described themselves as Nintendo-only gamers; 14% also played on PC, while 13% played on PS5 and 11% on PS4.
For games completed in a year, 36% said they finished one to five and 31% said six to ten; just under 5% reported finishing 31 or more. Backlogs were common: 40% had more than 30 unplayed games, while 4% said they had none.

On Switch 2, 42% said they mostly played docked, 28% preferred handheld play and 29% split their time evenly. Weekly play was most commonly six to ten hours (37%); 6% said they played more than 25 hours. Twenty-eight percent played single-player games only, and another 59% mostly played single-player.
Switch 2 ownership, games and features
Ninety-one percent of respondents said they had upgraded to Switch 2, while nearly 83% still had an original Switch in the household. Among Switch 2 owners, 3% said they had never owned the original Switch.

The same three games led respondents’ favorite first-party-published Switch 2 exclusives, with Donkey Kong Bananza ahead of Mario Kart World in that question; Splatoon Raiders placed fourth. Seven percent said they had played none of Nintendo’s Switch 2 exclusives.
Asked which console features they favored, 37% chose 4K resolution and 20% chose GameCube access through Nintendo Switch Online. GameChat was the least-used Switch 2-exclusive feature, named by 55%; Mouse Mode followed at 19%, and 47% said they had never used Mouse Mode.
Classic-game apps in Nintendo Switch Online drew mixed use. Among 5,316 votes, 11% said they played multiple times a week, 13% once a week, 30% once or twice a month, 28% less than once a month and 18% never.

Storage and hardware feedback
More than a third of respondents did not own a MicroSD Express card. The most commonly reported size was 256GB (29%), followed by 512GB (20%); just under 10% reported a 1TB card. The survey asked what respondents owned, not which card brands or speeds performed best.
Four in five described Switch 2 battery life as either good or average, in a near-even split between those ratings. Almost 87% reported no hardware issues so far, and just under 2% said they had sent the console to Nintendo for repair. Motion blur and loose Joy-Con were the largest issues cited; just under 3% mentioned stick drift. These are self-reports, not independent reliability testing.
Game-Key Cards received 4,729 votes: 2% strongly liked them, 8% liked them, 41% were neutral, 27% disliked them and 22% strongly disliked them. Controller preferences favored the Switch 2 Pro Controller (50%), over standard Joy-Con 2 (29%) and the original Switch Pro Controller (15%). For eShop browsing, 49% rated it good overall: 26% called it excellent and 21% adequate.

Purchases, subscriptions and anticipated games
In the Switch 2 format question, based on 7,544 votes, 59% selected eShop digital games, 40% boxed physical games and 0.2% selected none. The leading reasons respondents gave for buying physical were having a hard copy that cannot be delisted and price. Seventy-six percent said they had preordered Switch 2 games. On annual full-price Switch game purchases, 52% reported buying one to five and 25% six to ten. Five percent said they always bought at launch, while 2% never bought on day one.
Mario Kart World, priced at $80 in the survey article, topped respondents’ worst-purchase list; Welcome Tour and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond followed closely. The feature does not provide detailed vote shares for that ranking.
Thirteen percent said they did not subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online in any form, while 37% paid for the highest Expansion Pack tier. Overall, 69% agreed or strongly agreed that the service represented good value.

At the time of the survey, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave was respondents’ most anticipated title, followed by Pokémon Winds & Waves and Xenoblade Genesis. These are audience preferences reported at that time, not confirmation of release timing or availability.
Nintendo series readers want—and what they expect next
Zelda was the leading all-time favorite Nintendo series, named by 40% of respondents. Super Mario followed at 13%, Pokémon at 10%, Xenoblade Chronicles at 7%, and Metroid and Fire Emblem at 5% each.
For a series they wanted to see return, 30% chose Kid Icarus, followed by Wario Land at 24% and Wave Race at 10%. That is a preference expressed in the poll, not evidence that Nintendo has announced or is developing a revival.
On the next 3D Mario platformer, 63% expected it in 2027 and 30% in 2028. Those dates are respondents’ predictions; the survey report does not establish an official release date. For a hypothetical Switch 2 revision, 29% wanted better battery life and 24% wanted an OLED screen.

News, reviews and previews were the most common reasons respondents visited Nintendo Life, with features close behind. Reviews influenced buying decisions sometimes for 49% and often for 24%; 8% said reviews never influenced them, while 3% said they always waited for the site’s verdict.
Among other Hookshot-affiliated sites, Digital Foundry was the most visited. Thirty percent said they used only the website and 21% only the YouTube channel. Video-adapted reviews and gameplay footage attracted the most attention. Forty-six percent read and wrote comments at least occasionally, 27% read comments only and 27% did not look at them.
