Only the channel creator can pin, and only one message can be pinned at a time. A viewer does not need to buy a Super Chat for the creator to pin their regular chat message.
Pin a message from a computer
- Open your live stream’s watch page and its live chat window.
- Find the Super Chat or other message you want to highlight. You can pin your own message or a viewer’s message.
- Open More beside the message and select Pin.
- If another message is already pinned, pinning this one replaces it.

Pin a message in the YouTube mobile app
- Open the active stream in the YouTube app and open live chat.
- Find the message you want to highlight.
- Open More beside it and tap Pin.

Unpin or replace the current message
To remove a pin, open More on the pinned message and choose Unpin. To change the highlighted message, pin a different one; there can only be one pinned message at a time.

Who can pin a Super Chat?
Only the creator can use the pin control; moderators and viewers cannot pin messages. The creator may pin their own message or a viewer’s message. Super Chat is a viewer purchase, but it is not a requirement for pinning: the creator can pin a regular chat message without the viewer paying.
YouTube’s documented chat layout places pinned messages below Super Chat. Live chat is available on YouTube watch pages, not embedded players. After a stream ends, live chat is unavailable, though an archive may offer live chat replay. YouTube says replay is on by default and can be disabled for an individual archive in YouTube Studio; its replay guidance does not specify whether a pinned message appears in replay. What to expect on an always-on stream
You use the ordinary live-chat pin controls during an always-on broadcast; YouTube documents no separate pin mode for continuous streams. Its instructions do not say that a pin survives a stream restart, handoff, or other broadcast transition. If the broadcast reconnects or restarts, check the current live chat and pin the message again if needed rather than relying on persistence.
Troubleshooting
- You do not see Pin: confirm that you are signed in as the channel creator and are viewing the stream’s live chat. Moderators do not have the pin permission.
- A different message is pinned now: only one message can be pinned; pinning another replaces the existing one.
- You are watching an embedded player: open the stream’s YouTube watch page, where live chat is available.
- The pin is gone after a transition: YouTube does not document persistence across stream restarts or handoffs. Check live chat and pin the desired message again.
- You expect to find it after the stream: live chat is unavailable once the stream ends. An archive may have chat replay, but YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not promise that the pinned state is replayed.
