Yes, technically: you can run an encoder on a Google Cloud Compute Engine VM, feed it prerecorded video, and configure it to send a live stream to YouTube. That combines YouTube’s documented encoder workflow with a VM-hosted encoder; it is not a turnkey Google service or a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. Whether it is practical in India depends on the VM configuration, region availability, bandwidth, operating costs, channel eligibility and rights to your content.
Which Google Cloud setup can send a stream to YouTube?
Compute Engine VM running an encoder
This is the Google Cloud approach that fits the question most directly. YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming: the encoder sends video to YouTube using an ingest address and stream key, and YouTube recommends RTMPS. A Compute Engine VM can host that encoder, but that arrangement is an implementation choice—not a documented Google Cloud 24/7 YouTube relay or an uptime promise.
The VM needs access to the prerecorded media and a network connection capable of continuously sending the encoded feed. The encoder must be configured with the YouTube ingest address and the stream key for the intended live event. Anyone who obtains that key may be able to transmit to the stream, so store it as a secret and limit who can access it.
Google Cloud Live Stream API
Do not confuse the Live Stream API with a direct YouTube relay. Its documented workflow accepts live SRT or RTMP input, creates HLS or DASH output, and saves that output to Cloud Storage. The reviewed product overview does not document publishing directly to YouTube. Its pricing is based on active-channel time and input and output resolution, with each distribution stream charged as an additional output; those charges are not Compute Engine VM pricing.

How to build a VM-based prerecorded YouTube stream
The exact machine type, region, encoder, media format and stream settings depend on your channel and video. The steps below describe the architecture and the decisions to make; they do not imply that one configuration has been validated for every India-based deployment.
- Check that the channel can livestream. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Confirm access to livestreaming before paying for cloud resources.
- Choose a Compute Engine VM and region. Check current Google Cloud documentation and pricing for the specific region and machine type you intend to use. Confirm that the configuration is available in your chosen India region, can sustain the encoder workload, and has sufficient outbound network capacity. The available evidence does not establish a particular India region, VM specification or price for this use.
- Make the video available to the VM. Put the prerecorded media somewhere the encoder can read it, and account for storage, file access and transfer. If you plan to play a playlist, verify that the encoder can move reliably from one item to the next and recover if a file is unavailable.
- Set up an encoder on the VM. Configure it to play the prerecorded video or playlist and send the feed to the YouTube ingest address using RTMPS. Use the stream URL and key supplied for the YouTube live event. Choose output settings that YouTube accepts for your stream; confirm the current resolution, bitrate, frame-rate and keyframe recommendations in YouTube’s encoder setup rather than guessing or assuming that a VM’s network capacity is the right video bitrate.
- Protect and test the stream key. Keep it out of public scripts, logs, screenshots and shared files. Start with a controlled test, confirm that YouTube receives the expected audio and video, and check that the stream is visible as intended before relying on it continuously. If a key is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live settings and update the encoder.
- Plan for continuous operation. A 24/7 service needs more than a successful first connection. Arrange for the encoder process to restart after a crash, make media and credentials accessible after a VM restart, and monitor the encoder and outbound connection. Consider what should happen after a network interruption or a YouTube disconnect. These are engineering precautions, not a reliability design or uptime guarantee prescribed by Google.
- Estimate traffic and costs before leaving it on. Budget for the VM, storage and outbound internet traffic, and check the current egress charges for your configuration. As a rough decimal traffic estimate, each continuous 1 Mbps of outgoing video uses about 0.45 GB per hour, or about 324 GB over 30 days; multiply by your actual average bitrate. This is traffic arithmetic, not a Google Cloud price quote. Add any redundancy or monitoring resources you choose to the estimate.
What matters specifically for a 24/7 stream in India?
India does not change the basic encoder-to-YouTube workflow, but it does make region and cost checks essential. The available information here does not establish which India region supports your exact VM configuration, what that VM currently costs, or what its outbound traffic will cost. Confirm current regional availability and calculate compute plus egress for the bitrate and operating time you need; do not treat a VM’s advertised network capacity as included unlimited traffic.

Continuous operation also depends on your own design. A VM can be stopped, an encoder can exit, a media file can fail, and a connection can drop. Use supervision, monitoring and a recovery plan appropriate to your needs, and decide how you will detect a stream that is no longer reaching YouTube. Neither the VM approach nor the Live Stream API description establishes guaranteed continuous uptime for this use.
Will YouTube allow the content, and can it be monetized?
Channel access and livestream rules
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days. Live content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; YouTube can restrict a channel’s ability to livestream.

Rights to the prerecorded video and audio
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to the material and meeting applicable requirements in the relevant territories. YouTube’s livestream terms say: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Owning a video file does not by itself establish rights to its music, footage, performances or worldwide use.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party material. It may replace a detected match with a placeholder, then temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. Even if you have a licence, the stream can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Sort out permissions and any necessary allowlisting before relying on a continuous broadcast.

Repetition and monetization
Technical ability to livestream is separate from eligibility to earn money. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that its former “repetitious content” policy is called “inauthentic content” and includes repetitive or mass-produced material. The policy applies to live streams: monetized content should be original and authentic and provide viewer value. Repeating a stream does not, on its own, establish that a channel is ineligible; the actual content and channel are subject to review.
Archives are not a 24-hour duration rule
YouTube’s encoder instructions say that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. That describes archiving for streams under 12 hours; it does not establish a maximum live-stream duration or guarantee that a 24-hour broadcast will be archived.

DIY VM or a managed cloud service?
A VM gives you control over the encoder and operating setup, but you must choose, configure and maintain them, as well as account for compute and traffic. A managed service can reduce that operational work, but check that it supports your exact use case and understand its included storage, stream limits, pricing and recovery behavior before choosing it.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Each slot supports one always-on stream, 24/7 looping and playlists, with the uploaded quality preserved up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; it is one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. The same product is on every plan; only the billing period changes. To try it, start a StreamNeo account.
Before you commit to a 24/7 broadcast
- Verify the channel and check its livestream restriction status.
- Confirm you have the necessary content rights, including music and territory rights.
- Check your chosen India region, VM availability, outbound capacity and current egress charges.
- Test the full path from media playback through the encoder to YouTube before leaving it unattended.
- Decide how you will protect the stream key, monitor the encoder and recover from interruptions.
- Assess whether a repeated broadcast provides original, authentic viewer value if monetization matters.
Verdict: Google Cloud can host an encoder that sends prerecorded video to YouTube, but the VM workflow is something you assemble and operate—not a turnkey relay with guaranteed uptime. Verify the India-specific configuration and full operating cost before deploying, and treat channel eligibility, rights and monetization as separate checks from technical feasibility.
