Tom Kim won the men’s individual golf gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, but the available reports do not confirm that he then withdrew from the Baycurrent Classic. The PGA Tour listed him in the field on October 2, before the Asian Games final on October 3, so that listing cannot establish his later status.
Did Tom Kim withdraw from the Baycurrent Classic?
That has not been confirmed by the available reporting. The PGA Tour’s October 2 field article included Kim, but it was published before he won gold on October 3. It is a pre-event listing, not a post-gold update, and therefore does not settle whether he subsequently withdrew.
The Baycurrent Classic was scheduled for October 8–11, 2026, at Yokohama Country Club, according to the PGA Tour’s field article. The event announcement gave a broader October 5–11 event schedule.
What happened at the Asian Games?
Kim, identified by the Associated Press as Kim Joo-hyung, shot a final-round six-under-par 64 to finish the 72-hole individual competition at 18-under 262. He won by three strokes. Kazuki Higa of Japan took silver, while Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana won bronze after a playoff for the remaining medals, the Associated Press reported October 3.

The Asian Tour’s report recorded Kim’s four rounds as 67, 66, 65 and 64. His individual gold was separate from the team competition: China won team gold and South Korea finished second. The AP report noted that Kim’s teammate S.H. Kim consequently did not receive an exemption through a team gold.
Why did the gold medal matter to Kim?
South Korean men generally face mandatory military service; the PGA Tour reported a general service range of 18 to 21 months. Its October 2 preview explained that an Asian Games gold medal or Olympic medal provides an exemption from the full service requirement. The AP reported after the final that Kim received the exemption following his individual gold.
